What did you do in the garden today?

Such a horrible situation for all the residents in affected areas. So glad to hear that there have been very few injuries and fatalities reported so far (only two fatalities, I think), but I heard they are fearful that once they can get to the worst hit areas, the numbers will increase. Hope they are wrong, and that most people got out safely before it was too late. Thoughts and prayers go out to them all

CapricornFarm: "We never evacuated. Once when it looked like we were really going to get hit, it went south suddenly and wiped out that area instead. There are too many cars and people in Florida and not enough roads to evacuated everyone. Likely Texas is the same.
Feeling so badly for those folks in flooded homes waiting to be rescued!"

We never evacuated either. Yes, getting 10+ million people out of the Houston area would be next to impossible. You would have gridlock on the roadways with flooding which would be more dangerous for most than staying put.

Picked some black and purple tomatoes a few overly large green tomatoes for fried green tomatoes for dinner. And pulled out a large tomato plant that hasnt produced at all, not even blooms it was choking out my hybiscus and bird egg beans it got that large.
Going to plant corn in place of my sugar snaps, and green beans.

Not doing much more out in the garden today. 1:00 and it's already 106. making sure all critters and plants have water. Really glad I didn't take the sun shade off the plants yet.
Let the Dark Cornish out to free range yesterday for the first time. Rooster promptly flew over the shed roof heading to the other chickens. Yeah so much for the free range part.

Got a truck load of wood chips. Plan to pull some poison ivy, then lay down a nice thick layer of cardboard, followed by leaves and the chips. Hopefully, the cardboard, as well as the mulch materials on top will keep the PI from spreading underground.
I've been using the pine needles from around here. The berries have been growing nicely in it. Weeds not so much. :yesss:
