Wow! That had to be one thick stalk!!
So, what is a choke cherry vine? And possum grapes? Are they both edible for humans?

We haven't lost one in a month. We already worked hard to keep a clean and stress-free environment, but are working harder on it. They are all vaccinated so maybe that is why we haven't lost more to date. We'll see how it goes. Glad to hear you have a remission...gives us hope for some of our flock. You're right, it is so hard to see them suffer with this! I euthanized the last one, just couldn't bear it.

I really felt like burning the coops down to start over. But it finally passed.

Weird on marigolds not working. Works so well here I'll never plant a tomato without them.

Sorry if someone already answered this. I'm catching up on a few days away from BYC. That was a really cool Polyphemus moth. I used to raise them from caterpillars as a kid and still find one or two every year in the woods. It is a male, you can tell by the large feathery antennae it uses to locate a female when she releases pheromones to attract a mate. It's unusual for a male to not fly around at night, so it either didn't sense a female in the area or something was wrong with it as you suspected.

We have a few large chokecherries we planted about 15 years ago to feed the wild birds. After seeing some chokecherry preserves for sale in Montana a we were inspired and harvested the fruit and made some. You need pick them when they are really ripe...they aren't named chokecherries for nothing! It was OK, but I still prefer tart and sweet cherries, we leave the chokecherries to the birds.

that is something the gals told me the cherry is not one to make pie from just jellies
so I did cut some for the birds last year guess I will keep doing that

Thanks. He simply wouldn't fly. Had to move him out of the way several times. Really like the eye spots. They were like plastic or cellophane, see through.
