What did you do in the garden today?

Today I harvested more corn, chard, Anaheim peppers, curly kale and a pathetic looking little pumpkin whose destiny is simply decor now. Temps keep fluctuating, just when it seems to go to "normal" seasonal temps a pressure system moves in and its back in the 90's. Anxious to plant the "cool season" garden.
Did you get any rain? Was hoping the predicted rains helped with all the California fires.

We are getting rain right now and had tornadoes in the line of storms NW of us.

I know what you mean! I'm ready to plant too including some grass but temps keep going back up to almost 100. I'm ready for sweatshirts and jeans.

I was going to take the tomato vines out today but it seems the warm weather is back so I may go another week. I think the potatoes are ready the plants have all died back. Hard corn is ready, took pumpkins out yesterday seems ground squirrels like them as well as eggs. At least 10 gourds had their seeds stripped. Chickens made short order of what was left.

We did get 1/2 inch of rain. Air is much better now. Cooler temps helped. Nearest fire too me was an hours drive away without traffic. Brother and daughter had it much worse than me this time. They are both safe now.

Today I'm moving an A frame shade structure off the patio to the yard. Finally!! I feed under the structure and it holds two waterers on chains. The new area is more wind protected and will get dense shade from the crepe myrtles (if they make it :fl) in the summer, but a bit of sun in winter.
Trimming dead stuff off the potato bushes and cutting back bougainvillea yet again. I hate that thing, but it helps keep the chickens from jumping the fence.
Tearing down the temporary coop and run today, but the little run has shade cloth on it and doors on two sides. Might use chicken wire to limit door size to keep the bigs out but give the littles a place to get away out in the yard.

I’ve never done well with Bougainvillea it always dies on me. Wild blackberry on the other hand is a natural fence between the coop and the garden. Was going to take it out but beginning to like it. Just keeping it under control now.
