What did you do in the garden today?

Bought "decorative squash/gourds/pumpkins at Lowes for 50 cents/each. They look like a member of the buttercup family. If they are not tasty, the chickens will get them.

Grand dtr and I planted the last row of garlic today. 5 rows = 75 cloves. Need to get the bed covered with chicken compost, and wood chips before Fri snow

Stacked wood, still have 1.5 cords to split and stack.

That's what the menfolk here have been doing - splitting wood and stacking it up on the porch. It's funny, they really ENJOY chopping wood. I'd love to try it myself to see what the big attraction is, but can't because I have a problem with my elbow dislocating.

We bought a nice wood splitter for my BF on his birthday we have all played with it works really nice even on the great big rounds ... need more coffee now

We borrow a splitter. I actually find splitting wood to be a "fun" though tiring chore. It's a "good tired" when we can look at the dwindling "to be split pile" and then look at the stacked "ready to burn" piles. I drove through a neighboring "city" today, and noted that there were paper leaf bags piled up in a lot of residential neighborhoods. I had my MIL call her town office, and we found out that the town does not start pick up until Monday. Hopefully, I can score a couple truck loads of leaves between now and then.

YOU ARE THAT OLD

We borrow a splitter. I actually find splitting wood to be a "fun" though tiring chore. It's a "good tired" when we can look at the dwindling "to be split pile" and then look at the stacked "ready to burn" piles. I call that constructive destruction. Same with ripping and tearing in the garden/yard.

Having the winter supply full and ready BEF ORE winter makes me feel ready for another New England winter, as we never knowwhat is coming. Without a full supply, I feel scared and nervous...it is our winter heating after all.

I think this means I need to be on the look out for a splitter as the boys age out and move away....maybe they will come back just to enjoy the splitting when they realize it is a dying opportunity elsewhere.
