Hi Mama! So sorry for what is going on in your life! If buying seeds and planting them gives you focus and purpose, why not? Come here and vent. We are with you!
I have been looking at seed catalogues and drooling. Plan to build a greenhouse this year. Come along for the ride!

Yee. Plant with us. :D
One of us.
One of us.

I filled in the spaces in my garden. This is what it will look like this year (in theory);

The bed on the bottom left is going to be in a totally different part of the yard. Everything else is where it should be and is accurate within a few inches. The grid is square feet. It's hard to rotate crops when you want to grow enough tomatoes every year to cover your entire year's canned tomato needs and you only have so much space. So we added new beds to make it easier to jumble things around.

I also have a 4x4 strawberry bed and a bunch of berry canes/bushes along the opposite fenceline.

I want a green house and a really nice coop for my babies. I just need to win the lottery .

Oh trust me, I plant crazy style I even planted an orchard this fall on one of the properties.

Anyone know anything about digging a pond by hand? My babies stay right by my side when I am outside. They mean so much to me. I would like to give them something a little more than a bunch of kiddie pools. so I would like to dig them a small pond in the garden.

Looks very nice (you're giving me garden fever)! Re: growing enough tomatoes for canning - we've dedicated a whole greenhouse to mainly growing tomatoes, since we grow quite a few of them. That way, we save a lot of space in the garden for other things. Plus, we have found that our tomatoes grow much better in containers in the greenhouse than they did out in the garden.

Being forced into retirement, vs. being deployed in unsafe circumstances can be a blessing. I do not know about your "out of remission" :hugs, but, know that my prayers are with you. Gardening is a good thing. Retirement which allows the time to garden is an even better thing. :thumbsup

As for potting soil, I suggest that you buy a bale of Pro Mix. It comes inoculated with the microrhizae which helps to combat damping off fungus, and it also helps the plants to grow. While a single bale can be a drain on the wallet, I'm convinced that it is by far the most economical way to go, especially if you have a place to store it. I have sometimes stored a bale in a protected spot outdoors, when I don't have the indoor space available.

@chickmom3941 Thanks! Unfortunately a greenhouse might be out of the question. My chickens are grandfathered in under an Ohio law, and my rabbits are legal, and of course my back yard veggie garden is too... But some of my neighbors hate it and are always looking for a way to throw a book at me in some regards. So I think I'll be passing on a greenhouse... FOR NOW.... But who knows? Someday either I'll own more land or I'LL have the seniority in the neighborhood! *rubs hands menacingly*

In case you're wondering, it's over 600 plants in those beds. :) I just hope I have enough space for all the seedlings! It's gonna be so much work!

When i was younger i dug a pond in our yard in FL. In most places you will need a pond liner. So see what size you can afford and go from there. EDPM is the kind you want, it lasts a long time. Mine was 14'x14' . Three feet deep in the deep end and one foot deep in the shallow end. Do not make a sloping bottom, you will fall. Make flat bottomed levels like steps.
Or you can dig it out and line with concrete , but it has to be seasoned so it doesn't mess with the pH.
