What did you do in the garden today?

I'll get some photos sorted in the week. I'm jealous of your snow this is our 3rd winter here and no snow in all that time in our village

That sounds interesting, I'll have to look at the leaf cabbages as I've struggled growing brassicas - possibly just newbie errors but maybe they would be easier to grow?
I've not ordered any seeds yet (although did pick up some flower seeds on Friday) I should get on really!

Have you tried Kale? That's by far, the easiest, and the flavor of it becomes addictive. I've grown Red and White Russian.

Red Russian kale is definitely a top notch grower and seems to grow well in all kinds of conditions. It overwinters very well.

We like pictures! My garden is still buried under a lot of snow. But, if tomorrow is a bit warm, I may get out and prune the raspberry canes.

I've placed a second order of seeds. So many beautiful flowers to choose from. I placed order with Pinetree this year. Trying Anna Russian and Olpaka paste tomatoes. Have been really pleased with Amish Paste in the past, so this will be a good "comparison" year. Also trying a "leaf cabbage" called Trochuda. That will allow me to have cabbage for slaw and stir fries all summer long without having to commit to wait for or harvest a whole head of cabbage.

We are also trying Opalka tomatoes for the first time this year. Hope they're as good as advertised!

We are great fans of it but also have curled leaf lettuce still up we have had a pretty mild winter for some reason

I grow a couple of kinds of kale--lacinato and russian red--both do great all year here, and the chickens LOVE them. Us too, of course.

I am vindicated. Hubby was just talking with me about my seed stash tonight. Urging me to get rid of some of them. So... I'm not the only one who has multiple packets of old seeds. Really it's not a problem... just b/c some of them date back to 2009. I had a great germination of 9 year old tomato seeds several years ago!

Totally vindicated! I have moderately good germination rates from some of my 2013 seeds-- I just need to sow them a bit thicker when I start them. Never pulled off nine-year-olds though--you rock lg!
