What did you do in the garden today?

New to this thread. Hi :)

Late spring here. Planting a 2nd round of seeds into seedling trays. I always have terrible luck germinating carrots and beets and they don't do well in trays. What I do is cut toilet roll inners in half so they're short tubes then I put them in a container,fill with planting medium and plant my carrots and beets in them. That way I can manage them better,they germinate well and I can transplant them without worrying about root problems.

The rest of the seedlings I'm planting is buckwheat,corn,tomatoes,squash and cucumbers,herbs. A lot of the herbs are for my chickens :)

brilliant idea - I think I'll try the same as I also have trouble with them!

I plant out before they're very big so they've not reached the bottom of the roll. You can use whole rolls too fpr carrots instead of cutting them shorter. And plant the entire thing.
I find I have less seed wastage this way. Less thinning out.
