What did you do in the garden today?

I got the weeds out of my asparagus, got dirt in my tidy cat buckets for my herbs and pollinator plants around my raised bed. (the buckets surround the bed, hoping borage will deter svb)

and got a couple of fennel plants in a bucket and watered. need to go water the greenhouse plants

Wow, we had a freeze just last week. You must have a greenhouse?

I don't do raised beds. Grandma always had some stuff growing in tires.
I had my best luck last yr with watermelon, did pretty good with sugar baby watermelon once yrs ago but these were better . Blacktail Mountain watermelon developed by the guy that runs SandHill Preservation Center, a few seed catalogs have his seeds including Baker Creek. Problem with those watermelon is their leaves aren't real big so can get drownded out by weeds. I'm going to plant them in a few halved raised plastic barrels this yr, bet they will grow a lot better and make it easier.

I will definitely consider the walking onions. How much space do they need? I came up with another plan to add another raised bed in my garden. That will add 16 square feet to my planting space. The weather has finally settled down. Yesterday the winds were so bad it wasn't safe to be outside very long. My priorities today are working on the rooster's bachelor pad and putting ashes on the beds where I'm planting peas and beans.

My household has had a stomach flu all week since I did the one garden bed. So I've been caring for sick men and feeling sick myself all week. :p I guess the old thing about guys feeling sick more dramatically than women is at least true here... D has been puking 3-5 times a day, even G had no appetite, but I'm eating normal lighter meals and having no trouble keeping things down. The boys are completely laid out and miserable - I'm just sick achy and lightly feverish. It's been less than two days and I'm already feeling better enough to think about getting my late planting of basil in, the boys have been bedridden for 3 so far. :idunno

In any case, I picked up some new seedling pots from Home Depot today and a grape vine too. Just as a reminder, since it's popped up as a meme in a few places online recently to remind me, Home Depot regularly sources live plants treated with neonicotinoid pesticides which are bee killers. This isn't such a big deal for the grape vine I bought since it's a baby vine, but their flowers are often treated with it too. Nothing like inviting pollinators into your garden only to kill them when they have their snack. So be careful which plants you are purchasing from which stores and look at tags, often the plants that are treated with these are labeled.

Fingers crossed I feel up for doing my basil today. I have been bored and unproductive for a few days now.

Sorry about the plague.

Found this...
