What did you do in the garden today?

Picked 51 pounds of peaches ( from Eckert's, a pick your own orchard/farm) and 10 pounds of apples. Gave some to my mom, my niece and a friend so far. Plus made an apple crisp and a peach crisp. Still have several more people to give some too. Plus plan to make "Peachy Keen Ice Pops" ( recipe from the newspaper), peach salsa ( never had it before), peach jam, peach butter (never had it before but my daughter asked about it) and canning peach pie filling ( if I find a good recipe). Also plan to put some in the freezer as well as eat some fresh and make some pies, and...

Not happy with the sweet pickle relish that I canned the other day. The jars are like half full of juice and only half full of relish. Last year, I purposefully strained off some of the juice/syrup to get more relish in each jar. This year, I followed the directions to a T.
Next time, I will strain off some of the liquid again.

Have any of you had a similar experience?

Sounds like after your first salting and wait period you arent rinsing, draining, and squeezing enough liquid out befkre proceeding.

Good morning gardeners. We got another thunderstorm late yesterday afternoon. It took the rest of the evening before the humidity broke. Thank goodness I didn't need the AC overnight so I actually slept. I suspect you are right @WthrLady both regarding the calcium level in the soil for the tomatoes and the salting process of the relish. My little jalapeno plant is full of peppers almost ready to pick. I only have one lonely poblano forming on one plant but the other poblano plant is sporting some tiny fruit finally. I picked 3 lbs. of Roma tomatoes this morning along with another handful of cherry tomatoes and 2 of the larger ones. I should be picking another bell pepper in another day or two. Not much else going on. I have weeding and mowing to do but it's going up to near 90F again today so that will have to wait until it cools down a bit in a few days. Inside my sunroom I have a Meyer lemon developing and one of my Peace Lilies is starting to bloom. Good luck with all those peaches @karenerwin. I was so happy after I got the last of my 20 lbs. put into the freezer. For anyone with an abundance of cherry tomatoes I would highly recommend the cherry tomato and corn salsa. I tried it on a hotdog along with a little mustard and it was awesome. Nice change from traditional relish. Have a great day everyone. And enjoy the harvesting.

We got some crazy storms last night.

I had a girl who wasnt feeling well, head & tail down hunched in the corner. I gave them some save a chick, felt her up - crop & vent, & let them hang out in the rain to cool off. She seems fine today, but no egg.

I have 2 gallon ziplocks of the marzanos frozen, I will can them this weekend. Hopefully will have some romas to add to the mix.

I suspect these crazy temperatures might be making your girl feel poorly. We were having comfortably warm temps then it got super hot. Then these thunderstorms have been pretty intense as well. I'm thinking about making another batch of the cherry tomato salsa however this time I need to add more heat. I really couldn't taste the jalapeno in this last batch. As I mentioned in my previous post it was really tasty on hotdogs.
