What did you do in the garden today?

OMG, Sueby! Five sinus infections is awful! One is the pits!

I have lousy sinuses too. I use this at the very first indication and it helps me a lot. You can use it standing over the sink without any turning your body into a pretzel. And you can also use ordinary household ingredients when you run out of the packaged additives: 1/4 tsp salt and 1/4 tsp baking soda per cup of boiling water that you let cool once everything's dissolved. Got that "recipe" from my allergist.

(Couldn't recommend that you buy it from Walmart where they are so awful to their employees but they had the image.)

Anyone ever heard of a jalapeño variety called Felicity? I'm growing it this year. It's reputed to be full of jalapeño flavor without the heat. Just picked this one that's ripening to a deep eggplant purple instead of red.

It's small. Just 2" and tho this one is kind of curved and pointed the others look more bulbous like a conventional jalapeño. I cut off a section from the riper portion and I was able to just chew it up! Then I tried a large section from the green portion with a bit of rib and it wasn't all that hot either. I'm not going to try seeds but I think I'll be saving myself some time not having to carefully cut away all the rib.

After 5 minutes or so I'm beginning to feel the faintest trace of "burn" -- only not -- on my tongue but nothing unpleasant in the least.

I think it's a winner. ...at least for me who doesn't like fiery. Hope I can find it again next year since I have no idea if it would come true from its seed and I'm awful with seeds anyway. Never enough light for them inside and I never give them enough attention outside.... I'm doubtful it would be true since the idea of a mild jalapeño is very new to me and probably took some genetic tinkering.

Good morning gardeners. Sorry to hear about the sinus infections @Sueby. Hopefully the specialist will come up with something that will work. I used to get them a lot of them but increasing the allergy medicine and trying to minimize environmental irritants seems to have helped me a lot. I didn't get anything done yesterday. I had a medical appointment in Boston that I thought would be a short one but turned out I was gone nearly all day. Apparently a thunderstorm ripped through my area earlier in the day while I was gone but fortunately all was clear when I got home so I could let the chickens out for awhile. More thunderstorms are forecasted for today then clearing up tomorrow and the weekend. I picked another 4 pounds of tomatoes this morning. I'm getting a lot more than I had expected. The Roma tomato plants are looking ragged but each of the 6 plants still have 2 -3 pounds of tomatoes on them. They are all bent over from the weight of the tomatoes. To be cautious, I am picking them before they fully ripen. Since some are falling off the vine already I pick them before the squirrels and the chipmunks decide to sample them. Since we've been getting so much rain this week they would be at risk of splitting if I left them on the vine longer. In addition to the tomatoes I picked 6 jalapenos. The ones I planted are "Jalapeno M" from Ferry Morse. They are a small medium hot pepper. They are perfect for container gardening, however, they are milder than what I prefer. I like a little more heat. A side note: my chickens are looking healthier, I suspect it's linked to their "play in the grass time." But they are also laying like crazy, I'm getting 6 or more eggs every day. I thought they would be slowing down by now. Have a great dat everyone.

Your tomatoes sound like mine, all falling over from the weight of all the fruit! I have a big Amazon box on the coffee table with half ripened tomatoes in it. Good tomato year, unlike last year.

We had 2 tornado warnings yesterday evening. But the worst of the weather passed about 2 miles north of us. We didn't even get much rain.

I honestly didn't think I would get enough tomatoes to can this season, but I've been pleasantly surprised. I should be canning my first batch in the next few days. Like I mentioned, I wasn't home when the storm hit my area but I know it knocked my Directv dish offline for awhile. Then the evening news was focusing on tornado warnings Northeast of me which is New Hampshire and then some that were way southeast of me. Crazy weather. One more day to go. The ground is so soggy even if the grass dries out enough I'm not comfortable taking my garden/ lawn tractor out. It's heavy and I don't want to sink into a rut. Hope today is calmer.

Thank you for the suggestion @IamRainey - I've been dealing with it for years, 2 surgeries, every antibiotic ever made, steroids, neti pots, allergy shots, allergy meds, mold testing, essential oils, humidifiers - nothing helps. Here's hoping for relief today! Lol

@penny1960 pneumonia is no joke!!

Soooo sorry! I had my turbinates removed by one ENT guy to clear my sinus situation only to have another one tell me what a horrible mistake it was to interfere with my first defense mechanisms. Perhaps fortunately, depending on which ENT guy was right, they more or less grow back over time.

Wishing you relief from the pain and pressure! And sorry to bother you with what you already know. NOT that you said that but I know what it feels like to get "helpful" suggestions that really don't work and just keep you engaged in the misery. (HUGS) instead in case that's more comforting.

Boy! you've got a productive garden, Wee Farmer Sarah! And looks like some fried green tomatoes or tomato pickles could be in your future. Green tomato pickles were a standard offering along with my Great Aunt's Sunday baked beans. Yum!

Tornadoes in the NE? Wow! In the 20 years I lived there back in the 50s-70s I don't remember a tornado warning. Sounds like you're taking smart steps. Stay safe!!!

No way @IamRainey - I'm ALWAYS open to any suggestions anyone has. I'm desperate & will try anything and believe that the power of social media to help with things like this is awesome. As a matter of fact I just started watching a series on Netflix called Diagnosis where a doctor & NYTimes writer is doing just that - putting mysterious, rare, undiagnosed illnesses out to the world & actually getting answers for these people. Pretty cool.

I am super psyched to be canning so many tomatoes, that's the one thing I can't have enough of. Banner tomato year!

Off to google turbinates...
