What did you do in the garden today?

Good morning gardeners. Hope all is well. Your alpacas are always adorable @WthrLady. Today is the first day in quite some time when I didn't bring 4 -5 pounds of tomatoes in from the garden. I got around a pound of cherry tomatoes and pulled the rest of my green onions. I need to run to TSC in a little bit to pick up food for the chickens. I just ordered 2 new feeders from Amazon. I've noticed over the last couple of days that some of the hens and especially my rooster have trouble with the existing feeder with the slots. They get frustrated that the slots are blocking their access to the food then they push the feeder over. Hopefully these other feeders will work better for them. When I was moving my frozen foods into the new freezer I noticed I have 3 pounds of cranberries. OMG! Must be a New England thing. I found a recipe for apple and cranberry jam that sounds easy enough. My green beans are developing slowly. I should be getting more tomorrow or the next day. My butternut squash are ripening nicely and I'm considering putting some chicken wire over them soon to deter the groundhog and chipmunks from nibbling at them. I do need to can tomatoes this afternoon, I'm just not sure whether to do tomatoes or sauce. I'm actually getting low on jars and will likely try to buy more for making jam. Have a great day everyone.

Bought a 30 lb box of tomatoes ( starting to go bad) for $10. I had to cut about 1/3 of the tomato away but the other 2/3 was still good. Coning to can those up tonight. A friend brought me 6 pears and 15 red delicious apples that she picked in Arkansas. I will probably can the apples and I'm not sure what I will do with the pears when they ripen.
Started physical therapy today for my hip. Apparently, somewhere along the way, I've twisted my pelvis and that has caused one leg to be shorter than the other. That has led to the hip pain and significant difference in muscle strength in my right leg.
Hopefully, PT will get it all sorted out!

Welcome to my pain Karen twisted my pelvis in a motorcycle wreck when I was 17

Good morning all. The garden is winding down. I did pick several pounds of tomatoes this morning. I should have green beans to pick tomorrow, yay! Yesterday I canned hot packed tomatoes. I got 4 pints plus an extra pint of tomato juice. I'm donating a bag of cherry tomatoes to the Senior Center today because there are just so many of them. Sorry Karen. However, I still have more tomatoes ripening in the DR. I decided I want to make the apple & cranberry jam so I headed to Walmart to buy more 1/2 pint jars. While I was looking at the racks of unsold jars there I remembered that there were no jars available this time last year. This makes me think it's been a slow harvest for more than a few of us this year. I like the idea of making my own ketchup @WthrLady, but honestly I go through maybe 2 bottles a year. But it is tempting. @penny1960, have you considered it may be the preservatives or maybe sulfites in the commercially made ketchup? Perhaps the home made version will work for you. I learned a long time ago that preservatives were making me sick so that's why I make a lot of my own food rather than the heavily processed stuff from the local grocer. Have a great day everyone.
