What did you do in the garden today?

Well this morning I was out with the weedeater hunting for a hidden nest as one of my gals is off laying without a reason, she isn't in molt, has not gone broody in the last 2 months, and now all the suspect areas are chopped down with no hidden nests. Regardless my wife was pruning up more citrus and here is her haul:

Looks like lemonaide:celebrate! Pro tip microwave citrus for 10 seconds per 12 ounces, then roll em out before slicing and squeezing. You get more juice like that.

Oh no, good luck Penny! I thought you were on the mend, best to get checked out though.

So jealous of that lemon haul!

Sarah I dont really have a great spot for a grow light. The mudroom has decent light, but we keep it at just above freezing. The grapefruit does fine, but the lime doesnt like it. DH would kill me if I turned up the heat in there for a lime tree. :lau

The rest of the house isnt much warmer, lol. We like it cold. We dont even heat the bedroom!

Kinda funny when we bought the house they said 5 bedroom well not quite no heat in one, no closet in another, one has egress the window leads to the laundry room ? according to the old foundation under the house that was part of the kitchen my room.. the one without heat was the bedroom the small bathroom in the master was the only one, third room in the hall is add on then one without the closet was their add on as kids where born a living room and new kitchen came last

Are you on your way to the hospital yet? Please get checked out so you can get well. Best wishes. :love

Rain has come for the late afternoon and evening. At this point, we have accomplished much of our goal of providing the path of least resistance we want the rain to follow!

We've cut and removed a whole lotta sod! We created a 60+ foot long berm by removing sod then bringing in dirt by the wheelbarrowful and creating the 8" berm. replaced sod, packed it down, filled in the gaps with more dirt, added seed. Another 60 foot berm was created by the extra dirt from the pics above, but this will need to be fully seeded. So we have an approx 120 foot berm.

We cut more sod so we could remove dirt and lowered that area by approx 6" in the middle sloping gently towards the edges. This gave us lots of topsoil. We shallowed out a 60 foot section that is 11 feet wide!! Then another area that is 87 feet long and 5 feet wide. So, we dug a 147 foot channel!!! We actually have about another 25 foot section to do, but will have to wait for tomorrow morning. Luckily, the remaining section needs less dirt removed. Don't worry - we didn't get it backwards, the narrow part feeds into the wider part, which leads to the farmer's field. Again - lots of topsoil gained. It is Ohio, so lots of clay in that topsoil.

We decided more or less where to put the raised beds, and what size the new ones will be. Current raised beds are 16x4. We will make some new 12x4 beds. We also decided on a rectangular large garden bed - plans for it to be 20x30.
