What did you do in the garden today?

I always wait till they start to turn to bring them in, but I have so many super green ones that I want to try to ripen. Do you think in a cardboard box will work? I don't have any newspaper.

I bring the fig in after a few good frosts when all the leaves have fallen off. Then it goes upstairs, we dont dont heat up there. I cover it with a sheet & leave it till spring, except for a couple waterings.
It works better if you keep them from touching. Any kind of paper should work. If you can keep them separated in the cardboard box it might work. I’ve known some people have keep them in sawdust but I’ve never tried it. Do you have any paper bags? That would work. There is always green tomato salsa but I’m thinking you don’t have the time to process and can.

Watering grass seed ...that's pretty much been my routine ... 3x a day for the long berm and shallowed out channel, and 2 sprinklers in the front yard. But, its working - all kinds of new grass seed sprouting. Waiting for the last few days of seeds to begin to sprout. so far, they seem to be on a 7-day sprouting schedule.

Watched the farmer behind us harvest the soybeans in that field.

Happy to hear your grass seed is sprouting.

Good frosty morning gardeners. I ended up bringing both my rosemary plants and some lavender into my sunroom yesterday. I also picked most of the parsley and a good bit of mint. I'm glad I did. The temperature when got up this morning was 31F. I'm not ashamed to say I turned the pellet stove on. The parsley is nearly finished drying. Next will be the mint. Not much else going on in the garden although I do need to check on the leeks and butternut squash. No more frost in the forecast for at least a week so will let the squash lie in the garden as long as possible. Have a great day everyone.

Hello there gardeners. Not much has been accomplished in my garden yet, temps are back near 100* but cooling again by the end of next week.

I watered the garden today, the artichoke is getting more sun and growing like crazy. I've decided to transplant the Mexican BOP one more time, poor thing! It needs more sun and space and I have a spot that gets runoff from my grass that I don't plant food in so I'm putting it there. It'll get sun year round.

Which brings me to a quandary on what to put in the corner. I'm thinking about moving some pavers in and putting a tall pot back there so I can grow some annuals next year, maybe put lettuce in the pot this fall.

The chickens managed to kill the rosemary I had in their yard and I have aloe to transplant but I'm still undecided about the transplants from last Spring. Summer was brutal here and I don't see any new growth but they're holding firm to the ground. These pups were years old and so I have hope they'll make it. If so I'm going to put the potted ones in a bed under some oleanders that hang over from our neighbors yard and then put in pavers to keep the dogs out of there.

Hope you're all having a great weekend!
