What did you do in the garden today?

Happy New Year

Happy New Year all. The temps will be near 40F with sunshine today so more melting of the snow/ice pack. I need to get to the compost bin today to make a deposit. I haven't been out of the house for awhile so I think I need to go to the store and mingle with people. The discount store I go to has Burpee seeds for 40% off so I just may have to take advantage of that sale. I'm giving myself another day off from scraping wallpaper glue off the bathroom walls so my sore muscles can rest. The last bit needs to be done on a ladder. But I do have the filler to repair the "dings" in the wall so that's an easy job. Once I get the last of the wallpaper off I can paint the ceiling. Have I mentioned how much I hate wallpaper? One of the emails I received from the Old Farmer's Almanac was advertising that you can go to their site and order seed catalogs from various dealers. I know Burpees and Bonnie Plants usually have their offerings online. Have a great day everyone.

We’ve gotten 3 seed catalogues. Fun to look through! Our biggest buy will be fruit trees. Any suggestions for a supplier, let me know! We are interested in plum, Asian pear, and apricot trees. We think we will go with semi-dwarf size, if possible. We can fit 6 or 7 trees, which is good bc they all seem to need a pollinator, so 2 of each kind will likely be what we purchase.

Good morning, Happy new year (officially!!!) Wishing all much health, wealth and happiness for 2020 and beyond!
We went up Koke'e (same area that that helicopter went down killing 7 last week) to escape the smoke and noise but arrived to find trees down in our driveway. Tales of lots of clean up at the side of the roads, place looked a little like a war zone. Any who, after we cleared the drive to get through, we had a good dinner and nice quiet eve. In the light of day we were able to tackle more but deff have to go back. There is a white F150 hiding behind pile. Oh well... :th

Have an awesome day all. Think I will plant those seeds today!

Weather was amazing for January 1. We gardened in Ohio! Well, we worked outside in the garden area, so for January, that counts!

We built several new garden beds, and were working to place them today. Not quite finished, but getting there. Here's a pic: (Look at that BLUE sky in the midwest in Jan!!!!)

In the end, we will have raised beds that are 16x4, 10x4, and 8x4, and then a large "raised bed" where we brought a truckload of garden soil and spread it out on top of the ground into a 20x30 bed. So, we will have over 1100 sq ft of garden space! Maybe I won't overcrowd the beds now!! :lau

Looks awesome! Way to start 2020 off! Love the beautiful blue and wide open space. I'm also looking forward to seeing your progress and finished photos when all is green an fruiting. You are going to have so much fun!!!

Does anyone have any New Years resolutions?
Me? I want to enjoy gardening more, instead of it being like rushing through another chore. I want to enjoy... not only gardening but all of my tasks. I want to have more purpose, slow down and enjoy being in the moment and doing what i am doing. Some how I have lost that 'pride of a job well done' the last decade. This year, I want it back.

Apricots are usually self pollinating , Euro type plums also (think prune plum ) A few Asian/American plums also self . Shiro is one . No experience on Asian pear .
