Apricots are usually self pollinating , Euro type plums also (think prune plum ) A few Asian/American plums also self . Shiro is one . No experience on Asian pear .

Good to know! Some websites indicate these need pollinators, but I’m a novice, so can’t confirm or deny!

FWIW my in-laws grow some Asian pears. Delicious fresh, but seriously sweet and candy-like when dried.

BF planted a few new fruit trees cherries, we have a very old choke cherry actually 2 of them but he made sure they can pollinate each other

Does anyone have any New Years resolutions?
Me? I want to enjoy gardening more, instead of it being like rushing through another chore. I want to enjoy... not only gardening but all of my tasks. I want to have more purpose, slow down and enjoy being in the moment and doing what i am doing. Some how I have lost that 'pride of a job well done' the last decade. This year, I want it back.

I need to schedule out time for writing. Period. I haven't touched my book in two years except for a little editing. This ranch is sucking so much energy and time, by the time I'm done with the little things, my energy and brain are too far gone to write. But that's not really a resolution, more of a small goal.

We had gorgeous weather here today too! I enjoyed being outside for a while today!!
I too am wanting to plant some more fruit trees this year.
I have 3 varieties of apple trees and 3 peach trees and 1 nectarine tree ( I planted it last summer). I would like to plant cherry and or pear trees.

You bet. I'll be putting out a swarm box in March, just in case my goobers decide to swarm.

When I'm done with the bathroom this week then I'll be starting another hive set up. Then if the goobers swarm, I'll have a place to put it. If they don't swarm, I'll split the colony and hope they hatch a queen.

Weather was amazing for January 1. We gardened in Ohio! Well, we worked outside in the garden area, so for January, that counts!

We built several new garden beds, and were working to place them today. Not quite finished, but getting there. Here's a pic: (Look at that BLUE sky in the midwest in Jan!!!!)

In the end, we will have raised beds that are 16x4, 10x4, and 8x4, and then a large "raised bed" where we brought a truckload of garden soil and spread it out on top of the ground into a 20x30 bed. So, we will have over 1100 sq ft of garden space! Maybe I won't overcrowd the beds now!!

Speaking on a personal note, it seems no matter how much space I have and how thoroughly I try to preplan, I still will get an idea or see something and think, oh I can just squeeze that here, or that won't take up much extra room. hahaha I can almost never have quite enough room. Maybe its just a guy problem like horsepower too? idk

Good morning gardeners. I feel a little bad because I bought a bare root apple tree from a nursery in Wisconsin and a peach tree from another, but I don't remember the names for sure. I believe one of the trees came from Jung. Both trees are great and doing well. They both had fruit on them last year, but I pinched them off to give the trees another year to grow. I have another apple tree that I bought from a local nursery and it isn't as healthy looking as the others. I know this isn't all that helpful @Acre4Me, sorry. I did some researching and came up with an adjustment to the garden planning. Since I was already planning on putting in another bed in for herbs and flower, I decided to make it a larger bed like 4 x 16 feet and plant a few vegetables that do better with a little less sun. I'm going to try another go at broccoli. I will be trying turnips out in this spot as well because apparently with less sun they tend to grow bigger turnips than leaves. BTW: has anyone noticed that another member is starting their own garden thread? Did you have a storm in your area @TropicalBabies? That's a lot of greenery strewn about. Hope all is well. oh yes!! Im going to try to restrain myself on overfilling the beds, but it is hard not to do! Can always use more space!!
