Good afternoon gardeners. It's warm and windy today. I went to TSC first thing this morning for grit and picked up a Rose of Sharon and some more Gladiolus, I got purple this time. I did a lot of little things today. Pulled a few weeds, planted the Rose of Sharon after testing the hole for drainage, put out the wading pool the dogs don't use and punched holes in the bottom so I can plant grass for the chickens, transplanted the jalapenos, did some maintenance on a couple of shade structures, reassembled the compost pile a little bit, cleaned up a messy corner in the dog yard, rearranged the succulents, raked up bougainvillea flowers, and deep watered the lemon tree. I have a broody but she's in an outside nest box. I think I've figured out how I don't have to move her and can still keep her safe at night so I put 3 eggs under her.

Yep We have had em for 2 weeks or so, got the 1 gal sprayer and now the permethrin. I had to prove I was 18 to buy it for some odd reason. Definately going to follow the directions to the letter on mixing up the concentrations as they differ for surface vs poultry, or dog if I get that ambitious. I might do it as a quick band aidon the dogs b4 they get their revolution.

@AllenK RGV I feel your pain! My chickens had mites several years ago. They were a pain to get rid of . Don't forget to treat the roosts as well as the chickens!! The poultry mites are supposed to be different from the mites dogs get.

@KDOGG331 All of my tomato plants and all but 1 pepper plant succumbed to the freezing over night temps here and I even had them covered.

I knew I was taking a big risk with planting so early but I usually do a good enough job covering things when the temperatures drop. The past 8 nights I guess the temps just got to cold so even though they were covered it didn't matter. I will plant again in the beginning of May.

OH ya. Spraying the hens and the coop and run is no stranger to me. My gallon sprayer and I are old friends. We live on the great flyway and we allow freeranging, so mites are inevitable. PLUS, we had a mild spring. I'll treat again Friday, and then again another week just to be sure. The coop and run were soaked to dripping as were the chickens. But then they wen't out to play in the sun and were all nice and dry by bedtime.

Candled the eggs, no idea what's going on in there. 27/28th will see.

I have one in chicken spa. She acts like she's egg bound, standing wide legged, standing upright like a gargoyle, and ruffled, but she's eating a pooping just fine. No idea. She was bathed and soaked in warm water and salts (how we found all the mites). Fed her calcium. Time will tell. If she is, its' from age....sigh.
