What did you do in the garden today?

...put out the wading pool the dogs don't use and punched holes in the bottom so I can plant grass for the chickens,
This is a great idea! I will be stealing this one!

Mostly cloudy today, just teasing the promise of rain. Put up the supports for the straw to go over the potato bed. Went to the feed store and got chick feed and alfalfa hay, but there are 2, count them 2 nurseries on the way so we also picked up some additional veg and flowers to add more diversity to the raised beds, and a couple Andromeda to add early spring bee food. I stapled some chicken wire to the run to keep the chicks out from under the coop so next warm sunny day we get the chicks will get to run around the chicken yard. Planted the new celery, lettuce, fairy snapdragons, Mexican marigolds, bee balm, and salvia.

Good morning gardeners. Welcome to the thread @NewBoots. There's still some snow leftover from yesterday's storm. That should be melting soon. The temps are supposed to be up near 60F today so I can actually get some work accomplished outside. Of course it's supposed to be rainy and stormy the rest of the week. I plan on getting the lattice fencing up around the new garden bed today. I checked my bag of "seed potatoes" and they are actually doing a little growing in the dirt. I still think it's wise to hold off until next week to plant them. I finally got the one roll of HC delivered from HD yesterday. I still need the other roll and the circular saw I ordered from Lowes before I can work on the grow out pen. As far as spindly seedlings: perhaps it's a New England thing and the angle of the sun. My seedlings are usually spindly. I've added overhead lighting these past two weeks since the sun hasn't made much of an appearance in my sunroom. But all in all, once they get into the garden they do well. My issue right now is the temperature in the sunroom. I ran out of pellets two weeks ago? I've been using a space heater in the sunroom to keep the temperature above 60F so perhaps that's why I can't get the hot peppers to germinate. I could try put them on top of the refrigerator. However, my frige is pretty energy efficient so not a whole lot of warmth there. Looking for a productive day outside. Have a great day everyone.

my peppers have been slow to germinate too. Thinking I’ll try a heat mat next year.

Repotting some seeds today into larger containers. Hope I have enough containers and soil. Trying to avoid the stores unless really needed, but all the gardening stuff is easily accessible towards front of store in Walmart, so that can be ok. Last time I went to Walmart about a week ago there were few people inside, so hardly passed anyone. Grocery was the same.

Why not try the oven light trick, like we use to speed up the yeast? I'm sure your significant other would really appreciate this tip!:weeOr MHP?

Finding appliance bulbs around here is difficult and I use my oven for baking actually. And there is no significant other. I'm not good at sharing and do get annoyed rather easily.

I've considered the heat mat as well. As far as buying plants, I haven't been to Walmart since February. Although the coronavirus infections in my little town are still low, people come from all over to shop in our little Walmart, so you just don't know what you are going to encounter. We're in the middle of the surge right now so I'm hunkering down for at least one more week or two. I really need some additional compost so I may try ordering online and doing a curbside pick-up. However, since it's supposed to rain a lot this week I don't think there's any rush for that.

10am and like the army used to say - I've done more already in one day than most people accomplish in a week.

I'm heading down to my sewing/weaving studio. I was headed to bed with a clean slate, when the orders started rolling in. I didn't get sewing done yesterday due to the unexpectedly time coop clean up/out. So I am behind. I couldn't go to bed until the orders were at least printed, sorted, and I had figured out how much I had to finish by noon.

Then I'll package them, have lunch, if the wind dies down-take the winter walls off the coop, shower and start sewing inventory for tonight's sale. LOL.

Rinse - repeat. I am thankful for the work though. But it has not escaped me that I am my own sweat shop now. LOL. It's sad that anything I am earning is going towards the machine I had to buy to replace the one that broke doing this. :he

I am grateful as I am one of those people that if I am not busy every second, I think too much and then worry.

BTW, my broodies have switched clutches of eggs. The dorks.

A couple of small pieces of 2x4 or bricks with a small piece of wood across them over a heating vent works here.
