What did you do in the garden today?

I think you shouldn't fight the urge Sarah. Better to have a little extra and not need it than need it and not have it. If folks there are like folks here, they'll be going store to store with every family member going through a different line so they can load up. It's going to be just like TP I'm afraid.
OK, tomorrow I'll get up at the crack of dawn and hit the grocery stores during the senior hour. Ugh! Out the door at 5:45 am, that's earlier than when I was working for a living. Good thing I still have a little bit of that stimulus money left.

OK, so I just got back from the crappy grocery store near me. I guess they are still lagging behind. Absolutely no TP. Good golly. There were no limits on meat at all. I loaded up on as much as looked like an old woman might consume in a month. There wasn't a whole lot of choices on the beef so I will have to go to my regular store for that. After lunch today I'll get the meat into the freezer and do an inventory. Of course I bought more bacon. Yum! The good news is that everyone was wearing masks and some had gloves. There were directional arrows to keep the flow in one direction and lines reminding us to "social distance."

Awesome, thank you. I'm thinking just to get lettuce started a bit earlier in 1 raised bed. I hate buying lettuce (which is getting harder & harder around here) when I can grow it so easily & have a little extra for my friends & family. If it was a normal spring I'd be picking it already!
I never buy store-bought lettuce and just do without because I think store-bought lettuce tastes like chemicals and dirt.

My buttercrunch lettuce has been growing so well and I think in years before it grew so horribly because I didn't know how to technically harvest it. I learned that you pick out the outer leaves every so many days and it continues to grow and grow and grow.

Now I feel like a complete doofus for not doing that years ago 😂

I cannot wait until I butcher the quail and chickens. We are doing 4 chickens this weekend and the quail will be in 4ish weeks.

People probably think that I'm some murderer or something because I'm providing my family with meat, but the reason why I get excited over it is because we can't find me in our grocery stores.

This whole virus has taught me that I need to rely more on myself and not the stores.

Got an email that says my bees will be ready for me to pick up on Thursday!!!
Spent this morning moving more chain link fence. I think I have about 40 or 50 feet left to go and then the dog yard should be puppy escape proof!
I think I got into some more poison ivy though. :( :hit:he
I even came in and changed all my clothes and washed my face, hands and arms with Dawn, but I am noticing a spot right at the corner of my right eye that has that itchy tingle that says some oils probably soaked in there before I washed ( or else I managed to miss that spot).
Being that close to my eye I may have to get on a steroid. It's way to close to my eye for any topical medications.
Hubby got part of the raised bed moved into place but then we had to stop working because of the rains.
Do you have any pointers for someone that wants to start out with bees?

Where do you buy all the supplies for it?

I have the space to raise a couple of pigs, but the cost of fencing in that area is a bit too much for me. So for now I'll have to resort to stealthy meat hoarding. LOL! Here's a picture of the hoop bed. I used pieces of 2 x 4 fence wire to make the arches. I will be replacing them with pvc next season so the hoops will be more sturdy. But basically, I just covered one of my 4 foot x 8 foot raised beds. From what I understand, for really early planting you need to put hot compost under the covering to keep the plants warm. I've been relying on the sun mostly. But my radishes seem to like it and are doing well. Here it is. This was taken before I bought more clothespins to secure the plastic better.

Do you uncover it to work in it or is it taller than it looks?

I am actually a newbee myself. We bought the starter beehive kit at the local feed store. Then I did some research and found that there is actually a bee supply store not too far from me, so I bought the rest of my stuff there and ordered my bees from there as well.
The store offers bee classes and I found out that the local libraries around our area do too ( although they were all canceled due to covid 19). I also looked for bee clubs on FB and found several there too. They also hold bee keeping classes. I got lucky in that I found 2 people willing to be a mentor for me!! One is a lady that my daughter had worked with and the other is a lady that my niece knows. I bought a used bee suit from her and some other things.
The kit I got also came with a book, Bee Keeping for Dummies. I read it cover to cover and am going to re-read parts of it before Thursday.
