What did you do in the garden today?

Here is the tomato one. In the past I’ve laid soaker hoses, red plastic mulch film, stakes and wall o waters. A booger to set up at first but easy to care for once installed. My problem is I can’t seem to be bothered to pinch and prune tomatoes, so I end up with 8 foot vines flopping over making lots of tomatoes but a huge mess. The plan is to see how they will do given the structure above for support. Without any fussy tying maybe a little shoving around is all. The shirt is my hawk deterrent sorry it looks ratty.

For Mother’s Day DH and our son put up my third hog panel tunnel. Last year The pole beans were terrific on one so this year I’m doing an experiment with trying tomatoes on them. View attachment 2138266
I don’t have access to a pick up or trailer. Can it be stuffed into a hatchback?

Actually the feed store delivered them! Especially now all the local feed stores are happy to deliver and even won’t charge for it if you spend more than 50 or whatever. These are 16 feet long and I think 5 feet high so a hatchback wouldn’t be enough I don’t think.

I love it! I looked into them to make tomato cages (cut & bend into tall, square cages). Are you planning on the tomatoes on the outside & then kinda flopping over the top? Will you tie them up at all you think?

It turned out to be a really nice day here, though a bit windy. I planted a few more beans & thinned the lettuce. I also put mean girl in jail where she will stay till she can apologize. :gig

That’s where the experiment is. I planted one on the outside hoping I can encourage it to flop onto the panel, One in the middle with a square cage to hold it up till it grows through the top. The third one is inside but right next to the East wall of panel. I want to see how little I have to do to have tomatoes off the ground.
