What did you do in the garden today?

@NewBoots, I had intended to go to all container/raised beds this spring. I had the metal to construct the walls but needed to buy treated lumber. Then the lock down happened and we decided not to let anyone on our property, nor go off the property for awhile due to DH and I being High Risk individuals. SO I have 6 containers at the moment. Two with early girl tomatoes in them, two with pole green beans and 2 with squash. The rest of the garden is in ground and the raised containers are moved back to next year. We have a shop so maybe I will be able to work on them over the fall and early spring and have them ready for next growing season.

We got lucky, we were given a load of old deck boards, a load of aged horse manure, and 2 loads of wood chips. Not to mention all the cardboard boxes from our move here. All this last Fall so we had time to hire help and order compost to fill the beds. My next year project will be the drip water system.

Sorry about the tomato plants @WthrLady. That sorm cell went through here overnight. Lightning thunder and only a touch of rain. The winds stayed gusty all night but not 55mph gusty. After yesterday's heat it felt good.

Here I worry about hail more than the wind. Hail can wipe out a garden in record time.
OH we get hail....all ...the...time. This time last year was 2" hail for several minutes, took out all our building rooves and part of the orchard. Luckily the garden was 2 days from being planted.

And I assume you folks know that the rabbits can and will eat the skins as well? Our banana skins never reach the compost bin anymore.

We have raised beds mostly and little weeding needs to be done there. We got a couple of those lawn weed popper things to save our backs. They don't always get the entire root but generally do get most of them.

Edna E Mode for the Win! (no capes!)

Lovely day here, got the critter feeding & watering done early, then the raised beds all watered. Should do a bunch more today but I get a free pass, DP isn't feeling well (bad vertigo) so I need to be handy. I told her not to feel guilty cuz now I have an excuse for taking a lazy day. Glad I did make a grocery pick-up run though.

OH! I am so proud, all the youngest birds spent the night on the roosts on their own last night! I'll take the last brooder plate out and block the bottom nest boxes until someone reaches laying age. Coop tidy this morning was so much easier, just scooped the poop from the poop trays and picked up a couple random poops.
No I did not know that, thanks!

Our soil is mainly ridge soil which means not the best. We have been using composted chicken poo on this year's garden along with a lot of Miracle Grow. What little top soil we have is on top of yellow clay....lots and lots of yellow clay.

We have used ground up dry wall in our orchard and next year plan to bring up sand from a nearby creek. We live in the middle of an Amish community so getting horse or cow poo isn't a challenge. All I have to do is scrape the horse apples off the road in front of our house. :lau

I just went out to check the garden. We watered last night. Will probably wait and water tomorrow night. The container beans are starting to run. I have them next to railing so they can just run to their heart's content. There is a cattle panel to be bent for the main garden pole beans. Maybe I will start that tonight. All in all I'm pleased with its progress especially since our spring was just abysmal. Cold and wet....second year in a row.

But the apple trees are full as are the pears. Two apple trees were looking so bad last year that I told DH that we may as well pull them and replant. We didn't get around to it and boy am I glad we held off. They are both full of fruit!
