Bindweed grows ridiculously fast and much faster than morning glory. The wind screen is the kind of stuff that they use to make those coolaroo sun shades. On amazon you can get them in all kinds of sizes and colors. Mine are all 4 foot x 50 foot. The grommets are already installed. I bought cream color so it won't get so hot.

Do you mean real lard? The lard I get here is not true lard and is loaded with trans fat. I’ve thought about getting beef fat and rendering it myself. It makes the best pie crusts.

*blinkblink* I suppose so? Now I have to look. Label: LARD AND HYDROGENATED LARD, BHA, PROPYL GALLATE AND CITRIC ACID ADDED TO PROTECT FLAVOR. Is that real lard?

Seeing them in 45 mph wind is sadly funny (thunderstorm popped up while they were out. they blew over and rolled!)

Yeah the roots are so extensive you really can't poison it effectively. We were told that if we just kept pulling it up that eventually the roots would get worn out.

We went fishing today! The weather just had that feel and we were right, the fish were biting! Caught a ton of perch that we fed to the blue heron that hangs out on the dock, the ospreys, and still had a bunch to use for fertilizer. The ospreys are used to people and swoop down to take the fish right in front of the ddock we were sitting on.

This is the lard sold all over here(https://www.heb.com/product-detail/armour-lard/147225) and has the same ingredients as @NewBoots listed. It isn't something we use at all and gives me a bad case of the ikkies at the grocery store when I see it. But hey I'm cool with it if it is your thing. I probably eat it all the time without knowing it in my culinary adventures down here on the border. It is hard to pass up those homemade tamales being sold by unliscensed vendors in the dollar store parking lot.

Good morning gardeners. I can honestly say that I did something in the garden yesterday. I cleaned up two of my garden beds. Weeds and mostly grass. I also finally got some basil planted with the tomatoes. I'll be out there again today. The littles were fine for their first night. Apparently there was a "visitor" that stopped by. I'm not sure what it was since I didn't see it. It could have been a fox or my neighbor's cat. I noticed that the lavender plant next to their run had been knocked over. But they can't get in unless they team up with a raccoon wielding a can opener or wire cutters. OK @TropicalBabies, I fell for the alabaster swirly egg too. I just thought I should get that breed of hen so I can have swirly eggs too. On to the lard issue. Real lard is rendered beef fat and nothing else. Adding hydrogenated oil to what is marketed as lard makes it shelf stable. It also adds those nasty trans fats that are the worst you can consume. However, if that's all you can get it does make for really flaky pie crusts and awesome homemade flour tortillas. Needless to say, although I keep it in my pantry, I don't make pies very often and I usually only make my own flour tortillas in the winter when I have more time. This makes my cardiologist very happy. Have a great day everyone.

Morning gardeners. My back is not a happy camper today so not much happening around here, can't wait to go for spinal injections next week. Got a good soaking rain yesterday & everything looks happy in the garden.

I saved some beef fat that rendered when I roasted the bones, everything I read said to save it because it's good as gold. But I have no idea what to do with it, LOL. It's a guarantee I won't be baking any pies! The broth looks super nice, trying to figure out what to do with it now while it cools, probably just freeze it in quart jars. It seemed like a lot of time on the stove for a little bit of broth, doesn't seem worth it to me with as much as I go through, but I haven't tasted it yet! Maybe that will change my mind.

I am sweating like a pig. I tilled my whole garden spot, pulled up all turnips, and a failing tomato plant. Tied the wild branches of my cherry tomato plant. It is doing great. Fertilized my butter beans. I need to pick green beans. Also did the starting work for a flower bed beneath my bird feeder. Don't know what to plant. South Georgia. Shady most of the day. Suggestions? Nothing too tall. I want to put some small garden statues in it that represent loved ones I have lost.

Good morning gardeners. @Sueby I'm sorry about your back, when it hurts it can impact so much of your daily life! @Wee Farmer Sarah you're just planting your basil and I'm drying mine before putting in the spice cupboard, crazy. Angus is on his second day of jail and crowing a bit more than usual this morning; at least it's Friday and the neighbors had to go to work. Hubs has to work this weekend so today is gathering painting supplies, looking at new lighting for the kitchen and I'm shopping for oleanders. I really hate google, my house is on a corner and their camera allows the general public to peer into my backyard. I'm going to fix that, I chose a house with a wall for a reason. Have a great day all.

ETA I ended up with 2 white oleanders and one dark pink, some ruellia and a firebush. The firebush may need protection from the chickens, we'll see.

Yes, the ol alabaster egg fake lol. A 2 pack of fake eggs @ feed store was $10, I got 7 of the alabaster pretties in all colors for the same price on ebay. I don't golf and don't want to look at a golf ball because it will remind me of my X-husband... he is not bad, I just don't want to think of him... so alabaster it is!

I just moved the littles into their own mini coop and run this morning.

Love the Mini coop, nice and safe and roomy! Bravo on detouring the predator last night!
