What did you do in the garden today?

Took this puppy with me. She did really good. Gave her lots of water breaks and she stayed in the shade while we picked berries. She did have a bit of tummy trouble on the drive there but was fine on the ride home. She is worn out though.

I love how exhausted they get supervising us, or maybe guarding us...helping us?

Good morning gardeners. We got some good rain yesterday. On and off showers, an occasional rumble of thunder. I will likely have to postpone the mowing until tomorrow because everything is soggy right now. I made brownies yesterday. I may make a peach pie today. Peach season starts in a couple of weeks and I still have canned peaches to use up. I picked peas, green beans and a zucchini this morning. I trimmed some of the leaves on those squash plants so they wouldn't suffocate the jalapeno plants. Only 2 squash plants and they are filling up a 4 x 8 foot raised bed. The tomato plants are doing well and there is actually a Roma tomato developing. I'm giving my first cucumber another day to fill out some more before I give it a taste test. The peas should be done within the next two days. I can't belive it's mid July and I'm still picking peas. No complaints. Unlike last year's planting, these peas are quite tasty, edible pods and great in stir fries or just plain raw in salads. Not much else going on, just watching the garden grow. @adirondak5 do you not have any bugs there? Your plants all looks so healthy, mine are all chewed up.

Morning! Not much going on, been picking beetles & now squash bugs like a maniac. Those squash bugs are quick, instead of picking I'm going to resort to spraying with soapy water tomorrow. We also got some decent rain yesterday, not enough tho. The squash are still producing 2 or 3 everyday & I keep searching for new recipes for them. Tonight they will be marinated in italian dressing & grilled in addition the the spatchcocked chicken I will do on the grill too.

Depends on the heat....usually from green to black 3-4 days

My arm after spending the day picking wild blackberries. My other arm looks pretty good because I was holding the bucket with it. But the arm pictured is the one that was reaching into all the brambles and it definitely got scratched up!
we got almost 20 cups of berries. It was hard trying to find nice big ones. Most of them were small. Also most of the patch was raspberry red or still green. Any guesses on how many days it takes to go from raspberry red to blackberry black?

Try googling recipes for zucchini ribbon salad. No cooking necessary.

I caved and picked another Hungarian pepper. Since I’m growing it in a 14 inch pot I don’t expect them to get all that big. There are 4 - 5 babies on the plant. It’s nice to have these while I’m waiting on my jalapeños.

Tied up the tomato plants higher., baby maters everywhere, feel they should be further along, but it IS only mid-July.
Evicted another worm from the cabbage.

Everything is in need of a good feeding. Cloudy and cooler today, heading for humid and 100 for tomorrow and through Tuesday.

Cloudy today with rain coming this afternoon . I had a pickup load of planer shavings . Added to the garden for mulch . Little tomatoes setting on . A little behind this year . Which is good for my schedule . Not planned but good anyway .

Good morning gardeners. I drove past the oleanders on my way home from the store, they're alive and not droopy. I can't wait for them to get big enough to shade the wall in the afternoon! I've decided to rip off the side walls of the coop and and cover with hwc next spring although I'm buying the supplies now to store in the shed. Not sure what I'm going to do about the pop door, maybe eliminate it, or maybe just do half walls and keep it. I don't think the girls would like an open space behind the nest boxes and the pop door is in that wall. Everything else is still doing ok too. I'll turn the sprinkler on in the xeriscape garden tonight when I turn off the mister. Gave the flock some watermelon today and collected 2 eggs from yesterday. It's so darn hot I don't blame the girls one bit if they don't lay at all! Tomorrow morning I have bags of soil to dump in the garden along with the bunnies litter box. 2 bunnies seems to be about perfect for the amount of poop I want for building the soil. Our soil here is either slippery clay or sandy dust; either way there's usually a layer of caliche within 6 to 8 inches from the surface and it can be impossible to break through; it's not at all good for drainage. I'm mixing various brands of potting soil, whatever is on sale or cheap, with worm poop, hay and bunny poop to fill in the raised bed to about 6 inches above the native soil. The chickens have been a tremendous help with mixing everything up. Time for work, have a great day everyone!
