What did you do in the garden today?

I wouldn't trust my dog for an instant. He is I think my political opposite. Just a real jerk of an animal. Vegan dinner tonight. Fake bacon double cheeseburgers with brie and camanbert. Yum. I know the cheese ruins the vegan part, but it is incredible.
That burger sounds yummy. I can skip the bacon but the cheese... where do I sign up!
DH and I used to go get a burger 1 time a month and that's what I would order :drool You are making me hungry...
K. So is this jerk dog the new dog? I hope it grows out of whatever its got going.

Yep he is the new one just a very high energy thing. He is very sweet until he isn't. He never treats us bad at all though I just never would trust him around another male dog. I guess that makes him a Malinois.

How old? Balls still?
He is about three and nope those were taken from him by us. Just a rambunctious pup. We know we are safe with him around. This pup would never allow someone to harm us. I just have a love hate relationship with him as he isn't one you trust around others. Around here Malinois were getting stolen like crazy in January so we made him worthless by fixing him. Of the 7 fuzzballs we have none are unfixed. 2 cats 5 dogs. Man saying that out loud makes me feel like a hoarder. Each and every one was rescued out of a bad place. The reason for the Malinois thefts was something about a terrorist getting killed by one, the neighbor I got him from named him Rambo. We just call him Bo. I just know what he did before I had him to the male Pyranese next door. Regardless he is manageable. So our water is 83-86F how warm is yours in HI?

NOAA says- but that is a harbor on the cooler side of isle. So I'm gunna say the temps out front are pretty awesome, especially when it is hot outside ;)

Nice I love the water when it is near 90 degrees. So I reread my last post and remarked to myself how often I call him "Bo". The other 4 dogs just do not act out like he does or need correcting. He is one little trouble maker. His name crosses my lips 10 times a day. I just have to keep the dog off of youtube so he does not discover his special abilities.

My garden was severely curtailed and planted very late due to covid - I was working too much overtime in May and June to get the garden going properly, and unable to get seeds anyway. So I just planted grocery-store seeds of basil and cabbage I needed, plus loofahs for experiment/fun.

I apologize for forgetting who on this thread suggested I plant a cover crop on the rest of the garden, but thank you, I followed your advice - I planted buckwheat and cut it down last week. This Wednesday I'm getting a trailer load of horse manure, going to cover the buckwheat area, plant winter wheat, and leave it until Spring.

The cabbages are doing well under their row covers, and 3 out of 5 rows of basil are doing well - the two middle rows just have a few sad little plants, LOL.

I found some volunteer tomato plants growing behind my compost pile, so I thought why not, and replanted them in the garden. Amazingly, they're surviving after several nights of watering - one is even starting to develop little green tomatoes! Even the little wilted one is looking perky today. Who knows if this hot weather will continue long enough for them to produce, but any tomato I get will be a lucky bonus. The loofahs are starting to grab onto their trellis, so maybe I'll get lucky with those, too.

We're fostering a sweetheart senior golden retriever - my sister's dog, while my sister's on quarantine in Canada after moving there to work in health care and live with her long-term Canadian boyfriend. It's so great to have a dog around here, after losing both of ours so recently. Especially this dog - she knows us already, so she's not anxious at all and is enjoying her vacation here, with the chickens and big field with interesting bunny smells and mole hills to dig in. She has trouble with her hips and knees and we were getting frustrated with having to lift her up our steps every time she had to go out (she's about 85 lbs) but today I built her a nice wide ramp and she's able to go up and down with no trouble. She likes me a lot, but she worships Mr. Dog and follows him around everywhere. We love her and will miss her when she goes, but it will be a happy time when my sister gets out of quarantine and gets a more permanent living situation so she can be reunited with her lovely dog.

glad the garden is perking up for you!! Cover crops are great bc no worries, grow then “destroy” for the good of the soil! You will have awesome garden soil next year after the cover crops and manure add (with aging).

tomatoes are a bit like weeds, and they seem to try hard to survive, maybe you’ll get a decent amount of tomatoes from these volunteers.
