What did you do in the garden today?

:rant:hit

where you at? You can add your general location to your profile too. My daughter is in the Destin, FL area and getting over 10" rain today and a few more inches tomorrow from the hurricane.

I am in lower Alabama. I added to my profile too. Thankfully for us the tide did go down some so when it comes back up we should be OK. It has been raining since last night. I think that will not be stopping until late Wednesday. Winds are sure picking up now. Feels really nice outside though. Oh and the storm shifted so it won't get quite as bad here as Florida.

my daughter and when she had a smart mouth I offered to smack her face like she does to the grandson, right in front of him too. Said now you know where he gets it from and you deserve all that you get. She’s outside sulking. Waaah.
Lol. I have a teen daughter at home...but, I thought they got better. :hit

I cut the grass today. Yesterday I picked more cherry tomatoes and green beans and a couple of zucchini. I had 2 tomatoes in a plastic bag sitting on the back of my car so that when I saw my neighbor I could run over to the fence and give them to him. Long story short. I drove off with them still on the back of my car. 😢 My hubby found them down by the mailbox.
Our temps are quite a bit cooler here too

Good luck with the cucurbits, @Kiwibird! I've transplanted those before without issue. @Sueby, I've winter-sown cucurbits in the past. More risk of disturbing the roots this way, but they've never sulked too much (of course I'm careful).

I like onion ring with bbq. I like chili with picle and sauerkraut.

Oooo, that sounds good. Stay safe as you can! I will say a prayer for your safety.

You can also see the smoke that we've been dealing with...

Goodness, that looks more like morning mist than smoke. :( We keep praying here that you all get rain, and a good healthy amount of it, soon!

Once, I knocked over a measuring cup with about 2C of vegetable oil in it....it fell towards me, and all down my jeans (of course, it had to be denim), and all over the floor. It took awhile to clean and many rinses on the jeans before I would even think of putting them into the washing machine bc so much oil had soaked in. However, it certainly didn't smell like molasses.

Oh no! Oil spills (of any kind, really) are the worst! That must have taken forever to rinse your jeans! Ack!

I mean, if it is coconut oil you can at least roll your dog or cat around in it and end up with a super soft coat, but... ;P

There is still a little cat litter on the molasses spill. LOL And...I'm out that molasses! Booo!

@Acre4Me, those dried beans are beautiful! Your green beans look wonderful too! Good luck with that luffa. If nothing else...I'm sure the bees enjoyed the blossoms.

I just got into it with my daughter and when she had a smart mouth I offered to smack her face like she does to the grandson, right in front of him too. Said now you know where he gets it from and you deserve all that you get. She’s outside sulking. Waaah.

*giggle* Oh boy. When I was young Mom would tell us she hoped we had kids just like ourselves so we could understand what we put her through. ROFL As it happens, my sister did end up with a son just like herself and then some. Lots of exciting stories. Actually IIRC she got a stern "L-------, that is ENOUGH" a couple of Christmases ago! The circle of life...Enjoy that weekend! :D @Acre4Me...don't be too fearful; it does seem to depend upon the child (and the parent! but gardening/livestock-owing parents seem to be rather chiller...). By the time I was in my early 20s Mom said I was more friend than daughter. I was not a perfect child by any means, but was and remain a bit of a quiet, bookish nerd. Also, I had my own place by 22, which helps one respect one's parents much more. My BFF was bookish but not quiet at all, and locked horns with her parents 'til she was in her late 20s or so! You never can tell. Isn't that part of fun of parenting? The surprises? The dashed expectations? ;P At least that is what people tell me I've missed.

How are your rescue birds doing? Are they warming up at all yet, or at least relaxing a bit?

It was 45F when I ran out to let the chickies free this morning. They did not care a bit about the chill, though. Just more seed and greens gathering. Some of my nasturtium (in the flowerbeds) have leaves big enough to be taco shells!

A couple of small jalapenos have formed—we'll see if they make it. Anyone else suspect an early frost might be coming this year? There are a few big tomatoes still on the vines, and still more small ones—we'll see. Can't say I see many or any more setting.

Keeping all of you in danger from fire or weather in my prayers! ❤

Pics from the last few days:

Luffa gourds - we have a few weeks till frost, so not sure if we will get actual luffa from these.

Here is the one most developed Luffa. I'm hopeful for this one.

last real haul of the green beans. Only a few left, and a few plants are trying to flower again, so I'll leave those, but not sure we will get more beans.

Watermelons. I think only 2 have any chance of being edible. The biggest one at the bottom of the pic should be fairly ripe.

Spinach and peas planted a few weeks ago. Looking nice.

radish in bottom row, and two rows of turnips growing well.

My brussel sprouts and cabbage. Had to spray with Bt today, bc cabbage looper caterpillars are eating them up!

I have wanted to grow luffa ever since I found out they were a plant!!!
Those shelled beans are gorgeous!
Your fall garden gives me hope that mine might produce something before frost!

ignored the garden today.
When the dew had dried and the wind picked up at noon, I went out and put the hay into windrows. Then at 4 spent 30 minutes swearing hooking up the baler. Was back on the tractor by 430 and was done baling the field by 630. DH came home and loaded the bales into the hay shed. Dinner wasn't managed until 8.
Now I sit here fighting my sinus'. YUCK!

But it's done until next July.
