What did you do in the garden today?

Good afternoon gardeners. Went out this morning at break to find I’d left the hose on...all night  The lemon tree should be good for a while. The water bill is going to hurt. Anyway, after a snack and a swim the ducks followedme out of their yard for the fist time and did a little exploring. Left to right are Fig, Bean and Pip

Storing seeds. If they're in the packets, tape them shut if they're opened. I have mine in a plastic bin on a shelf in the mudroom. It has to be mouse proof. It's chilly out there too.

Seeds from my own plants are in small envelopes, marked with what it is, and what year it was grown. Make sure they are DRY before you seal them up, or they can rot or mold.

Really long term, you can store them in the freezer. In fact, there are thousands (millions, maybe) of open pollinated (non-hybrid) varieties of seeds being store in Norway, I believe, in a very cold, secure location. Leave them in their container to bring them back up to temp to avoid condensation on the seeds.

:gig Could you eat these?

We got them for eggs, hopefully all girls. I’m also getting four Egyptian Fayoumi pullets in April. They lay small eggs but are supposed to do great in the heat.
OMG they are the cutest things ever! Just as cute as when they were little yellow fluff-butts. DP now wants runners and the internet says 300 to 350 eggs a year. Now I want them too. Can that number be right?

Thanks! I recommend more research. I read the same thing, but after more reading I found it’s probably not likely. I don’t remember the numbers, but as I recall they seemed to vary quite a bit depending on the source. If I have to buy eggs to supplement because they’re on hiatus, I’m ok with that.
