What did you do in the garden today?

I usually plant bean seeds straight into garden but it,s so wet here just now thought i,d try something different.I,ll just try it with a few and plant the rest of the seeds later .no reason why they should,nt take if the roots are strong enough .got some of the compost spread on one bed going to get the canes set up ready ,what veg can i plant in the same bed as beans or peas ?it,s a large bed with plenty of space .

keep us posted.

I think spinach, swiss chards and brassicas are good companion plants for beans and peas. just dont plant garlic/onions near them.

do you start beans in pots and transplant later? I have never heard they can be transplanted.
Beans grow pretty fast. I've never started them in pots, and never had a problem with getting beans from my plants. (Except the year the bunnies kept mowing them down. GRRR!) They do need warm soil to germinate, however. Peas can be planted earlier.

And like someone said, they do not play well with onions.

Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone! Best of luck with the rough weather coming at you @Artichoke Lover. I've had an Oster counter top oven since 2007 and it is amazing. Although its a bit smaller than yours @WthrLady it can handle an 11 inch pan. I don't use mine everyday but it works very well when I need it. As for my new range and oven: it took me a little while to adjust, however it is really nice. The oven settings are adjustable and the burners have sensors in them so when you turn the burner off it actually starts cooling down immediately. Not as fast as a gas stove, but immensely faster than the glass top nightmare. Except for a little blast of snow perhaps on Friday morning, it looks like Spring is actually arriving on Saturday as scheduled, LOL! I still have frozen berms on the northside of the house, but most everything else has finally melted and the winds are more tolerable. The long term forecast is looking pretty good as well so I may do a hoop garden in one of the raised beds. I'm still leaving the mulch covering on the asparagus for now as the night time temps are still a bit nippy. I'm confused by beans and peas not getting along with other vegetables. They get along with most others especially those that need lots of nitrogen. Tomatoes, squash, corn, cucumbers, radishes, lettuce.... I'm still plugging away at the house remodeling. I finished painting the hallway yesterday. Today is cleaning and cooking up the traditional corned beef and cabbage. Car shopping on Friday then getting to work on painting the kitchen cabinets next week. I'm hoping the soil in the main garden firms up by Saturday so I can get in there and inspect everything.
