What did you do in the garden today?

Trimmed back some trees/bushes and potted some of my seedlings. I think I posted about it already, but got 2 large pots to try to grow plants out back without the dogs and chickens killing them.

Going to do some more planting this afternoon hopefully, and then sit and admire the tulips!

Aw @karenerwin I'm so sorry about the pup.

Got a lot done over the weekend. The onions are in & fared well with the cold last night. The garden is all cleaned of leaves, as is the yard.

My habaneros haven't sprouted yet, not sure when to give up on them. I decided I will put up a hoop tunnel for the peppers & get them outside early (the ones that have actually sprouted).

Got the rain barrel tuned back over & ready for rain. Got the straw bale moved down there to plant in too.

I decided I'm putting in a big new raised bed. My garden is on a hill, so this will go at the bottom of if & look sort of like a retaining wall. I'm thinking strawberries. Lots & lots of strawberries. It's going to be like 12x4 & I'm not sure what we're making it out of, it might just be cinder blocks with the price of lumbar right now. But DH has the opportunity for both old railroad ties & telephone poles from work. I need to look into using that stuff where I grow food, not sure if it's a good idea or not. Anyone have thoughts?

So sorry to hear that you had a similar situation and that it ended badly. Did you ever find out what was wrong with your dog?
Lucky is home now. I picked her up last night. So far no vomiting. She has eaten 3 raw eggs and a little bowl of puppy chow. Time will tell how it all turns out for her.

If her stomach is still upset try feeding her plain chicken or turkey and rice. That’s what we would feed our dog with pancreatitis when she would have flare ups. It’s very easy on their tummies.

I keep seeing that plant roots won't absorb creosote so they'd probably be safe to use. But meh, I'm not sure it's anything I'd use.

Grew up using nothing but upcycled rail ties. But eh. to each their own.
I always disliked the way they smelled when hot.

He swallowed a cloth. He died only because the vet (actually two, and three visits) refused to listen when I said something was wrong. By the time they did surgery, his intestines had burst in multiple places. Two months (MONTHS!!!!) before the surgery I said something was wrong.

In general I stay away from creosote. Inhaling it is bad, handling it is bad, and if it gets in your water source that's really bad. If I built a garden from it, I'd be working that garden. I'd be breathing any residual fumes (and they do off-gas when it gets hot), I'd be leaning against it, touching it, getting it on my clothes... and so would the toddler.

I do wonder how much creosote is still on them at this point. But I think I've found some cedar 5x5s I'll use instead & not have to worry!

I did grow up creosoting fence posts & barn stalls to keep the horses from cribbing or chewing so the smell is actually a good memory for me, lol.
