What did you do in the garden today?

Holy schmoley... I missed 22 pages of posts! Looks like everyone has been as busy as I have been!

After a weekend of back breaking labor, we finally got the garden tilled, compost and dead fish slurry (gag) added, and everything tilled again to mix it all together.

We added 100 ft of underground pvc to make watering easier and prevent fungus & mildew (hopefully). Lastly I recycled my feed bags as weed barrier by tacking it down with landscaping pins.

Started planting a few seeds tonight... I planted some tomatoes, corn, carrots, zucchini, and petite bell peppers.

Still have to put up the frame for the hoop house and buy some row cover material for it to keep the pests out... Probably do that this weekend or next week.

Wasnt today but saturday, we picked up a "baby cakes" blackberry bush starter at tsc while getting some chicken stuff! I also pulled up some carrots and made steamed carrots for my mom. Will pull up more next saturday.

We also have whiteflies apparently hiding under our kale. Any suggestions of how to get rid of them? My dad says to just put a trash back and pull them out but theyd just jump out oof.

Planning to fence off where we have our blueberry bush and put the blackberry bush there too, we want to get some more berry bushes and call it berry lane!

Planted the plum tree and did some weeding. Pruned the elderberry and passionflower plants. Watered the greenhouse. Turned the compost. I was good and plucked most of the blooms off the new blueberry bush but I’m sad about that. It looks like we will get a good strawberry crop though. I just have to get out there and cover the plants with chicken wire to keep the birds out.

I want blueberry bushes!!! But our backyard is very shaded, and I don't want to go through the trouble of planting and have no berries to show for it. And I doubt I could sell my spouse on a berry bush in the middle of the front lawn. 🤷‍♀️

Blueberries are pretty shrubs maybe you can to just tuck some in the landscaping.

Mine is right on the side of my house that gets full sun! Sadly every year birds steal almost all the berries though, im planning on fencing/screening the full thing so both wild birds and my girls cant get in there without permission! Home grown blueberries are the best in my opinion though, unlike the store ones they are straight off the bush and you can choose how much tartness you want! (good for me since I like them slightly tart so I can grab them a little early lol)

We actually didnt intend to have the blueberry bush but one day my pop-pop brought it over years ago lol

We also have a large mulberry tree im planning to collect more from this year, gonna get a tarp spread it out and shake the tree as I heard it can be done that way! It always produces a ton but most are too high for me to reach and only a handful I can!

Also with my wild grapes they apparently never stopped growing back lmao, RIGHT under where my dad cut the vine they started growing back and I never noticed sneaky little buggers! Im happy they are growing back though as I enjoy the fruit from them and heard that chickens also like them!

I agree. They turn great colors & have pretty flowers!

I just googled how long it can take to sprout habanero seeds, it says up to 5 weeks! I should have started them sooner. :gig
