Edit: forgot to add that I saw the first firefly of the season on the way home tonight!

We started with a new/bare lawn when we moved, so we planted grass seed a couple weeks ago. Its just warmed back up here in Missouri and the grass has really started sprouting. I have no garden yet, but i did spend my evening in the yard watering the seedlings and planning landscaping. My 15 chickens are 100% free range so they foraged pretty good on grass seed the past week, lol. Thankfully it still looks to be coming up pretty good! I dont know what im going to do when i start my flower beds and garden.. sigh...

I've been moving a lot of very heavy, wet, smelly compost (that isn't done composting ) into the raised bed to help fill it back up. It settled since last year (when it was brand new) and is at about half full (before adding the compost). I am wanting to go get some finished compost (from an animal rescue) and some topsoil but I am waiting for a trailer hitch to come in (and then I need to buy a trailer). Last year we just put tarps in the back of the van and transported it that way but I really don't want to do that this year.
I also planted out 4 of the blue green beans that I had started. They had gotten so large that they were starting to wrap around the top of the covered raised bed. I also planted out 2 of the luffas and a small pot of some kind of flowers that I started from seeds. I don't know if it is really warm enough yet or if we have really had our last frost yet ( I think April 15 was the predicted day). But I still have more inside for back up if needed.
Last week I planted 2 small pecan trees and a couple of butterfly bushes and 2 other things that I don't remember what they were.

We bought a house in Poplar Bluff in January of this year. The previous owner had demolished the insides down to studs. We have been fixing it back up. We are headed down there tomorrow (Tuesday) as we have people coming to do some foundation repairs.

We bought a house in Poplar Bluff in January of this year. The previous owner had demolished the insides down to studs. We have been fixing it back up. We are headed down there tomorrow (Tuesday) as we have people coming to do some foundation repairs.

The past year or so (maybe a few years) has been a great time to buy in poplar bluff. Cheap. I debated a few times buying a cheap house to rent it out but i dont want to deal with the headache of crappy tenants. I could never live in poplar bluff myself. Especially raise my kids there. The crime and drugs is out of control. My nephew is a butler county deputy and they deal with murders and robberies daily.

While walking down to the barn to check the chickens, I stopped by my greenery. The 10th of March I sowed spinach and salad in the greenery, it was a cold day, -20 c ( -4 f). But under the fleece, it grows, my best sprouting percent on spinach and salad ever

This is how it looks like in eastern Norway in April.

The summer chicken coop/run and bunny summer house are looking realy empty , just waiting for the animals to move out... except this year we are going to build a new run for the chickens and solid roof on both runs, both for shade and for snow, no more mesh roof.

Norway is on my list of things to do in life. DH is Norwegian, but I don't think he's had family over there in a looong time, nor does he know any of them if he does.

I was so very late in doing it, but I pruned the gooseberry & blueberry bushes yesterday. They're both young so they didn't need much. I had another habanero pop up yesterday, so that's 3 out of 20 or so.

I need to get out there & see if I can make those plexiglass panels into some type of a cold frame & get something planted under there. I may go into town & buy some bush bean seeds because I really want them now.

I am actually half Canadian. My father was born and grew up in Saskatchewan. Thanks to internet, we have easy connection to our relatives in Canada.
