What did you do in the garden today?

So..... due to circumstances in the community we live in my husband and i feel we have no choice but to sell our beautiful ranch. Its been days of tears and not a lot of sleep. We don’t know if we can find a place to rent that will allow us to keep our goats and chickens but were are trying very hard to find something. The plan is to rent here in California for a year or two then get out of the state. If any of you have suggestions for places to live in a rural setting with decent weather ( not too hot and not too cold dont mind a bit of snow now and then)! Good food growing conditions. Decent people, good internet( hubbs needs it for work) and lots of nature for me( minus too many skeeters) please send me ideas. We are thinking maybe flagstaff.
so today in the garden, I did a little clean up and weeding for some photos for our realtor. As soon as i finish the weeding ( ill be using a weed wacker instead if hand pulling my beds as I usually do) i will begin potting up many of my veggies, small fruit trees and berry bushes. I will also begin taking cutting from my plants to take with. Its so depressing as my garden is off to an amazing start this year. I grew everything from seed and moved the plants in and out everyday as soon as they germinated for weeks, Best strawberries ever this year( those are going with me for sure. ) were trying to be excited for new chapter, it’s financially sound decision, but im leaving behind 11 years of working the land, restoring habitats and the soils. It is coming to be what i envisioned now i have to leave it behind. Heres some shots of the house i took today. View attachment 2682087

Beautiful!! I’m sorry you need to leave the home you’ve worked on for over a decade.

I’m so upset. I messed up my ankle (hopefully just sprained, but I’m finally going to the doctor today) last Saturday. It’s keeping me out of the garden just as I need everything to be planted! 😭 The frustration is killing me, but I cannot walk down our steep hill to the garden spot. And I only have little kids who wouldn’t be able to do it for me and a husband who works from dawn to dusk and can’t help either. I put so much work into setting up my biggest straw bale garden yet and it’s all going to be wasted if I can’t walk. 😭😭😭
All my little peppers and tomatoes are sitting under the grow lights, begging to be put in the ground.

I feel your pain. I’ve gotten sick, it has really slowed me down. Finally on 2 meds and hopefully getting my energy back. Other life things going on, too, keeping me from progressing very fast. The starts are looking very needy...they start to look terrible after a certain point.

on the positive side, you very likely have a longer growing season than me (western Ohio, zone 6A). So, you will still have success with your garden, even if you start later than usual. Up-pot the starts if you can to give them some more room to grow if you can’t get down to the garden. Hopefully you’ll get some good info on your ankle (just a sprain hopefully), and you’ll get it stabilized and can move around better. Good luck today at the doctor!

I’m sorry. I agree with @Acre4Me though even if it’s another month before you can get out there you should be able to get some stuff like cucumbers, squash, green beans, and some early tomatoes.
You can also try getting some large pots, grow bags, or 5 galleon buckets and put some of the tomatoes and peppers in those.

Thank you, @Acre4Me and @Artichoke Lover. I had a feeling someone on here would understand my frustration- and the helpful advice is icing on the cake. The pain and frustration has stopped me from thinking clearly - uppotting is exactly what I need to do right now. And it will let me play with dirt even though I can’t get outside. Now to find some buckets...
