What did you do in the garden today?

Good morning gardeners. Hope you made it through the storms safely @BReeder! One more hot and muggy day here before the temps drop. I did manage to get the chicken coop cleaned yesterday. This morning I noticed quite a few more lima bean plants are emerging. Thank goodness, I can hope for some fresh, homegrown lima beans. Nearly all the pole/green beans are coming up in the corn patch. I took a long look at my potato plants today and discovered something has started eating the leaves a bit. I checked under the leaves and could not see any bugs or eggs. I may spray with some neem oil to see if that works. I watered the pepper plants and fruit trees in the front yard this morning. Also watered my cutting garden. One of the lilies are blooming a lovely orange and there are tiny figs developing on the fig tree. Laundry today and spending time with Mr. Air Conditioner. The only thing I can suggest for your bug problem @TJAnonymous is bug netting. Good luck with that.

Thanks Sarah for the suggestion.... They are inside my hoop house which is covered with insect netting right now purchased from agfabric.com. Unfortunately, they are somehow tiny enough to get through the insect netting.

Oh yeah, and I've been battling aphids & whiteflies on my tomatoes inside my hoop house. They seem to be really bad this year. I've been spraying with Neem oil & Castile soap almost daily. Hasn't deterred them so I switched up to Sevin which I reserve for only really BAD problems because I have a lot of concerns about the environment from it (almost as bad as Roundup in terms of environmental damage). It has slowed them down but within 2 days of spraying, they are back again. I've got Nasturtiums and Chives planted all around my tomatoes. Still hasn't deterred them....

Any ideas on what I should do next? I'm thinking of maybe making some habanero water and spraying THAT on my tomatoes.
White fly strips and keep on spraying.

made two bouquets and some bread to our good neighbors

Ugh I look at yalls pics and my garden is sooooo behind! Silly me thought I'd save $ by buying seeds and planting at the last minute. Needless to say it is all just now starting to grow and transplanting during Tennessee heat - well idk if anything will ever grow or not from any of it.
No, you're not necessarily behind. You still have a long growing season to go, so late planting should be fine for many of your plants.
Like you, I'm definitely drooling jealously over people's "garden porn" too, but in my area (Pacific Northwest) most of my plants are either just coming up or barely starting to flower. Plants I tried to get a head start on by starting in March and April, all got drowned by too much rain or the hailstorm we had, but our growing season is often good into October. So waiting a bit to plant, might not a bad way to go for you either.
Don't worry too much, just water a lot! Each year is good for some things and bad for others, so you are sure to get a good harvest of some plants.

I haven't done much in the garden this week, because I injured myself tripping over concrete blocks. It was dark when I got home from work, I forgot they were there, and hit the ground so hard. Finally today I can take a breath without it feeling like being stabbed, but I'm still sore. All I did yesterday was weed a bit, and all I did today was cut cardboard pieces and fit them in between half the raised beds, to prepare for dumping chips in the walkways.

I'm so blasted ticked off! I took several precious vacation days off work to do so much in the yard and garden, ride my horses, etc. And being hurt, I've now wasted four days, grrr. But oh well, I got a lot of my backlog of mending done, while watching some good movies.

And now I feel decent enough to get to work.

Happy Summer Solstice, everybody!

Thank u for encouraging me! I needed that! I pray you aren't too sore - be careful...easier said than done I know.

Went to the garden store for some potting soil for cuttings for the family I've done of my grandmothers sweedish ivy. I ended up with a rescue spaghetti squash cell pack & 2 plants for the pollinators. :gig At least I didn't forget the dirt.

I thought about some paste tomatoes because the garlic is coming out this weekend & I'll have a couple empty beds but all they had was bigger potted tomatoes & I refused pay for them. :D I was looking for rescues. Oh well, I'll find something to grow in there besides the squash.

Does anyone freeze garlic over the winter? I've been reading on it & am specifically interested the method where you peel bulbs, puree 2 parts oil to 1 part garlic in a blender & then freeze. It stays soft enough that you can scrape out what you need.

Just wondering if anyone has tried it. It seems very convenient & I think I'll have quite a bit of garlic so this sounds like it would last me till next years crop is ready. I would love to be garlic self sufficient. :gig

ETA: I found it here so it's safe: https://ucfoodsafety.ucdavis.edu/sites/g/files/dgvnsk7366/files/inline-files/250352.pdf
