What did you do in the garden today?

Uh oh I've detailed the thread, lol. I should add that dh used to get absolutely covered in paint, caulk, and other various construction materials. Our washer struggled. Frequently I had to run an extra wash cycle to get through the crud. Additionally, we cloth diapers with our other child, but had to stop because the machine just couldn't get the diapers thoroughly clean. We had a really nice all in one, GE. It was super convenient... but only for my clothes, haha!

And yeah if the whole board is smoked, it's done for.

Cloth diapers are the way to go. It saves you sooo much money. The major downside is washing them though. If you dont have a good machine it can be rather disgusting.

We have a new agitator free top loader - I've had a couple front loaders & didn't like the last one. Sometimes the clothes in the middle didn't even get wet. This new top loader works pretty well, even with DH, who is a Millwright (works on turbines, damns, conveyors - the guy that the soap is dirty AFTER he's showered), it gets his stuff pretty clean.

I can't believe the last of my cuke vines are still producing but I found 2 more cukes. The peppers are loaded, the green beans are just meh. I seem to have a lot of vine & leaves, but not tons of flowers. I have a few squash ready to pick too. Fall lettuce is coming up. All is good in the garden, but fall is surely on it's way.

My husband works at a mill too and I can attest to the dirt! He showers at work and still comes home with dirty hands. He's at perpetual state of dirty

It wasn't leaving visible nastiness thankfully, but it wasn't stripping the diapers and DS was having eczema outbreaks.

Nah, no bleach in my house. I break out if I touch anything that's been washed in it... even after it's been rinsed three times. I'd hate to find out what happens if I got it on me directly.

Good thing I didn't plant my potted plants in the ground. They've all got to move so the shed can get moved tomorrow. Ah well.

Rain happened in the garden today! Not that it's going to help much grow now, but we needed it really badly. Hope we get more...

Still getting cucumbers. There are two small watermelons left on the vine. Caught the tiniest rat that was nibbling on the corn. Picking figs every day now, no critters are eating them yet. One of my grafted figs is very good - a green fig with dark red interior. Unfortunately it came with a description but not a name, so I have no idea what variety it is.

Dirty hands = clean money . Honest work .

They use less water, my clothes come out cleaner, more energy efficient (and if a tissue sneaks into your washer load it doesn't get chopped into a gazillion pieces, just a little wet ball).

One of my grafted figs is very good - a green fig with dark red interior. Unfortunately it came with a description but not a name, so I have no idea what variety it is.

Sounds like our Italian Honey Fig. We had it when we were still in Portland, it was excellent.

Made a dozen pints of salsa this morning and someday I will learn to use gloves when chopping hot peppers. My fingers are finally cooling off. Canned 5 pints of chick peas, and I made about a pint and a half of that apple butter, and @Sally PB, adding the cherry juice was such a good suggestion. I'm amazed at how little 4 pounds of apples made but that stuff is delicious! I have a few more apples to process but I can't wait to make more. Right now my kitchen looks like a bomb went off so it'll be a day or two before I get those done.

And I'm out of pint jars again...

Watered the garden and walked through while it was doing it's job.
Grabbed a few sanMarz and some larger cherry tomatoes off the cutoff dying vines.
Harvested 3 apples from the orchard.
Caught a cicada and fave it to my oldest hen. She loves those.
We're heading for the low 50s tonight. I feel Fall trying to crash my party, but I'm tired of the heat and humidity.

YUP on the kleenex. as one who left a WHOLE travel pack in her back pocket last fall. OH how I dreaded opening the washer when I remembered. Nope. It was good.
