What did you do in the garden today?

Scary! I go to walmart first thing in the morning or not at all.. just too much chaos later.
I've been known to reserve the walmart run for 9 or 10 at night too. Oddly in Texas that doesn't work though. The grocery stores here stay packed with long lines late into the evening. If you suffer through the heat of the day, however, there's hardly ever a line. An odd difference I've noted between the South and other regions is that in the South waiting 20+ minutes in the line to check out is considered normal. Elsewhere, you never wait that long unless the machine went down or somebody decided to write a check.

I need to get out and water the plants really well today sometime. The grape vine looks chewed on and rough, although the jasmine and honeysuckle are doing fine. I popped out earlier to move my car so the shed can be relocated, and to take out the trash. I almost melted carrying the baby. Little toaster oven!

Plus the poor customer service, the slow cashiers, the other customers...I just flat out hate walmart. My MIL shops there all the time but I only tend to go around the holidays to buy xmas presents for my niece and nephews. Kids dont care where their toys come from and now that ToysRUs is gone its pretty much my only option. I also wont go there without DH because our friend was told to leave that parking lot by the cops because they were conducting a sting on gang violence in the area. I didnt even know we were in that type of place where that crap happens.

same for us too! no lids anywhere. I was able to buy some lids/bands from Target online though
I've had good luck at Menards. I bought a lot of lids at the start of the season so I have more than enough to get me through next year as well just in case this ridiculousness is still happening. Ball is made in the USA so I dont see any reason for the shortages but now I'm being prepared. Ive got 2 unopened cases of pints and quarts just in case I need them and several packages of lids and bands.

I bought 4 cases of ball pint jars last year and the majority of the lids on the jars were bent. DH unbent them for me with some plyers but I'm wondering if their quality control went array during the height of the pandemic and extreme demand. Really annoying since I cant find lids that a brand new case of 12 jars has 11 defective lids.
Ditto on that! I pulled out my pliers and had to fix lids on brand new jars too!

When we lived in Cheyenne, WY, DH was told by a city cop that a good chunk of their calls are to the Walmart and he personally will only shop there when he has his gun with him.

I managed to pick up 3 boxes of lids at Fleet Farm, and for a normal price too. Limit of 3 per customer. I had picked up 2 boxes at the country farm store 2 days before, so now I have 5 boxes of lids. Need to can peaches tonight and start canning the pears - which are now ripe.
