What did you do in the garden today?

Good morning gardeners. I managed to get compost from one of my cold compost piles and cover two of my raised beds yesterday afternoon. I'll work on moving more this afternoon while the chickens are "free ranging." I need to move my fig tree into the garage today. It was 25F this morning when I crawled out of bed but it's warming up quicker than the past few days. The leaves are coming down pretty good now so hopefully I can start that cleanup by the end of next week. A reminder of the storage longevity of homegrown produce: the chard I picked two weeks ago is still crisp and flavorful simply stored in the crisper section of my refrigerator. The last of my carrots that I pulled are still fresh and firm and I'm confidant they will still be great in a few weeks. I have a bowl of mixed peppers in one of my crisper drawers. They have been in there for well over a month and they are still tasty and usable. This is one of the big reasons I put in the work to raise as many vegetables as I can, fresh produce is the best and it is the most fresh when you pick it out of your own dirt.

No garden, but yard. I have all those mums to trim today and the garage to clean for winter.
The clothesline is up, and the dog bedding is washed and drying out there.

I need to master tightening this new line. I made a quick lift pole, but it will do for winter.
Nice to have a line again. I don't use it often, but do miss it when I don't have it. Every base we ever lived on had a leftover line from the 40s-50s-60s in the yard, lines on it or not. LOL.

Good afternoon gardeners. Today was a busy day outside, I’m pooped! I trimmed a few shrubs, planted the garlic, covered the carrot patch with bird netting and found where the ducks have been laying their eggs. We also got a lot done on the shade garden. Here are some before and after pics. I’m ordering two new pieces for the west wall but the bottom piece will be lower shade percentage and allow more air flow. Also going to do the whole door with shade as well. Before

The plan is to move to he compost pile to the other side of the veg garden and plant another small tree of some sort where that was with the big duck pool between them. Maybe another Arabian lilac since it’s a fast grower.
Keep your nails dirty and stay safe everyone!

I love seeing what you have done there!

I pulled the two straw bales apart and mulched the strawberry bed, the garlic, and the multiplier onions. There was half a bale left, so that went into the chicken run.

We're waiting for the leaves to finish falling, but since they're oak, it'll be a while. I hope to rake up some for the garden. I put some in the chicken run, and they have enjoyed scratching through them. That's the last thing I have planned for in the garden. Anything else will be weather and whim dependent.
