What did you do in the garden today?

As much as I love the TP roll idea, it never actually works for me. Either the cardboard wicks all the moisture from the soil, or I have to keep it so wet that the cardboard disintegrates.
I had that problem last year when I tried keeping a small amount of water in the bottom of the pan. My hope was that the cardboard would wick the water and the soil would wick off the cardboard. Good in theory....except that the cardboard disintegrated after 2 weeks of sitting in water.

This year I tried to be smarter.... I put a bowl of water in the center of pan but did NOT put any water in the pan itself. I do spray a little bit of water in the tp roll to ensure that the soil stays moist but I don't saturate. Then I covered the pan with a clear top to contain the humidity. This method has really helped to keep the tp rolls from disintegrating SO FAR. We'll see what happens over the next few weeks. I might have to come back and eat crow.... 😂

THe EMT tubing it the top rail and cements into reducers which are on PVC tubes that slide down over T-posts. The cement isn't holding on the EMT, but it should. And the EMT isn't fitting into the reducers. To further complicate things three of my Tposts, must be a different company, don't fit in my PVC tubes.

I'll rework it later this week. I'm no stranger to reworking while standing in the hardware store. LOL
It's conduit? 1" is inner diameter, the walls will be thinner so it might make sense it doesn't fit a PVC coupling/reducer. Yeah, best to try out in the store.

I tried TP tubes one year and they all got moldy. I was so disappointed in that. I’m sticking to the fiber pots I get from my discount store. I also save containers from year to year. This definitely is a nasty winter @WthrLady. I don’t mind snow, actually I really like it. But I don’t like ice or freezing rain and rain on top of snow. Yucky and a real PITA to clean up. And while not as bad as 2019, these single digit temps are getting really old. It’s only got to -3 here once. Hopefully it won’t do that again. Sorry for whining. :idunno

"DH is going to kill me, I've decided I want another cattle panel for the garden. That means hooking up the trailer & heading into town"

Are you using a pick=up to pull the trailer? If so, just bend the cattle panel into a U-shape and put it into the bed. Strap it down if the tailgate will not close You can straighten it out enough to use, anywhere. Multiple panels. I have a trailer big enough to haul CP's laid out on the floor but....Why?

Not really in the garden unless you count the whole dog-gone 2.5 acres. We lost a s#!t load of citrus last year with the lowest (17F) temps I have seen since I move here. almost 50 yrs ago. 3 days ago we unwrapped 7 trees, took cover off of a bunch of plants that don't like cold, Opened up the "portable greenhouse" and moved a whole bunch of others out of the garage to soak up some sun. Got a cold front movin in tonight. Supposed to be above freezing tonight but Mrs. Lobo don't wanna take the chance. Reversed all that today. will reverse what we did today in about 2-3 days. Winter schedule. Will wash, rinse and repeat several times in the next 1.5 months!

I did try them out in the store before I purchased them. I purchased them because they fit.
This was actually from an assembly list online. I'm wondering if there was a manufacturing error in some of the reducers as I did purchase 4 from one box and the other 6 from a newly opened box.

I checked on the seeds germinating, and have 11 varieties waiting at least one more week. Most of yesterday's had really poor germination (and most were flower seeds) so my seed hoard is down to 76 varieties. I am retesting the lavender starting with cold stratification (I've never done it before, but read it could help), and the winter rye.

It's still a lot, but my game plan is to use up my old seeds this year, only buying new stuff to replenish what got thrown out or fill empty spaces in the garden. Next year, I won't have to worry about germination rates so much because all of my seeds will be from 2019 or later.

So far, the only thing planned for my garden is building the fence and putting my 11 asparagus in there somewhere. I need to get really serious about planning, now that most of the main garden varieties have finished being tested.
