What did you do in the garden today?

I've fallen in love with frittatas, now that I'm getting lots of eggs. Those are a great way to use up odds and ends of veg, and it even got DH to eat a bit of broccoli, which never happens.
I love frittatas, as you say, a great way to use up scraps of veg, cheese, and meat. Much better and simpler than quiche for me.
I don't care for beets. They taste like dirt to me. After reading Eating on the Wild Side, though, I'm going to try Detroit Dark Red because they supposedly have less geosmin, which is the chemical compound that gives them the dirt taste. I love their color, and can at least put a small bit in a smoothie. And the greens will probably go in a frittata.
Be sure to pick them small and the dirt flavor is lower to non-existent. And when mine get away from me and turn into woody monsters, I pull them and give them to my ladies. Over the course of a couple of days they peck them down to a little bit of the skin. 'Course they're poop is an alarming color for a couple of days. :)
I just plant and keep my fingers crossed. :)
This is my method too. Mostly anyway. I talk a good game but I figure seed is cheap and I generally have more seedlings started than I can use anyway.

Amazon delivered the bean trellis, cucumber trellis, (though I'll use it for both cucumber and summer squash) and shredder yesterday! I put out the trellises yesterday and was going to plant the wax bean seeds, then remembered I have no inoculant so I'll pick some up at the store on Thursday. Looks like nearly all of those tiny beet seedlings died or were eaten by something so I'll plant some seed directly and try again. Supposed to freeze again tonight but there's rain expected starting Saturday so kinda typical for here this time of year.

Everyone is getting sprinklers - they will be covered in ice come Sunday morning - but they've survived 27 and 28 that way, earlier this year, so we'll do it again...
:fl:fl sending positive waves...

I've had to cover my blueberries just about every year. I bet I'll be doing that for the cherry trees every year too. Cherry trees are two and three years old, this year. So hoping for some fruit this season, even a few to prove they can do it.
I've been working on that. Doubles produce the biggest ones obviously but then you only get one as opposed to 4+. I think there is a genetic component and you can breed a larger size into them. I let some of the larger ones go to seed 2yrs ago, but lost the seedlings to the sheer amounts of rain we got last year. I have some seed left and will be trying again this year.
I didn't let any of my potato onions to go seed, as I figured that took energy, and therefore size, away from the bulbs. When I have more of them, I will try that.

Supposed to get snow on Friday so I brought all my plant starts back into the sunroom. 😕

We had a huge swarm of starlings roosting in the trees around our coops. I made DH set off firecrackers to scare them off. Really worried about bird flu...

Also came across this article. Food security is going to be an even bigger problem so small gardens like ours are going to be critical.
