What did you do in the garden today?

Expecting rain tomorrow night through Wednesday night and we need every drop.
Currently sunny and 73 and the air is so dry, and the winds are howling.
Laundry is on the line, hens are out pecking the yard, DH is out scooping alpaca beans, chicken breast are in the pressure canner, rags have been cut for this week's rugs, I'm about to go out to the seeding shed and then to put a second coat of primer on the new chicken house door. Last thing will be to rake out the hen house, although that might wait until tomorrow when there is less wind, so might just wash the dog. Shhhh don't tell her.

PHEW.

Good afternoon all, or close enough anyway. Got everything watered before I left for my mom’s this morning. I brought home a few finds, including unfinished picket fence slats, enough to attach to some 2x4’s for a trellis or fence for something to climb, maybe moonflowers. There were a few bags of potting soil and a tall wooden table? It’s small, round and more of a plant stand in my opinion, at least that’s what I’m using it for. Need to sand it a bit and paint but still useable. Yesterday afternoon I transplanted the chaste trees into the grow bags and mulched with light colored rock. We have them on the small patio so they’ll get afternoon shade but plenty of morning sun. I think by next year they’ll be in their permanent location in bigger pots. I’m going to harvest carrots this afternoon and probably ditch all but two garlic plants so I can move blocks out for use elsewhere. Only two garlic are even decent size and they’re the two that I didn’t plant in the holes in the blocks. I need to stir the compost bin and probably add some water. I have two different soaker hoses ordered, different manufacturers, to do some performance testing this summer. I desperately need something that will water two oleanders and an Arabian lilac on a slope without getting tons of runoff. I also want one that I can use in the backyard for the shade garden. Eventually I want a hose timer so that I can automatically water the small stuff that needs it more frequently. In other news, I’m sending the bunnies back to my sons place. I have two boys sleeping in my living room and it’s obvious nobody is leaving anytime soon. The space for the indoor pen is needed for beds and the kids to have their own space, so bunnies gotta go. I don’t think my son will be able to move that pen, or take it apart and reconstruct at home, so I may move it outside when we replace the arcadia door and use it as another enclosed garden bed, most likely for cool season crops like lettuce and other greens, then melons in summer because it would get full sun.

My Asparagus seeds sprouted! I used a heat pad for seeds, and it took about 7-10 days for them to sprout, but it looks like all seeds sprouted!

I’m jealous! I think it’s just too darn hot here for asparagus without shade and right now that’s still premium real estate for other things. I hope I can change that one day.
