C. Chinense nice.. most people say super hot but are actually just hotter C. Annuums, or similar.. I love em myself..

I'll have to keep my eye out. I get my pepper starts from a friend, I'll suggest this to him. I don't have any luck finding really hot pepper starts around here for some reason.

I started over 700 varieties of capsicum one year.. all from seed.. I used to breed chilis, I have 3 C. Chinense varieties I created and have grown out 8+ years to stabilize the strains.. 1 is a Bhut Jolokia/Primo 1 is a Bhut Jolokia/Moruga and 1 is Moruga/Brain Strain...

I'll be planting the rest of my rose bushes today! I have the colors white, red, pink, and an orange and yellow stripped real rose bush! I have a White knockout rose bush but it's more like a White knockoff rose bush. We got them from Lowes and not realizing that Aldi's had them and so did tractor supply.. which was only 2 minutes away from both stores... Each of the cut rose bushes were $12.99 each from Lowes and the others were $7.99 From TSC and Aldi. I got two trees from Aldi, and Eastern Redbud and a flowering Crabapple. They had only 1 magnolia but I didn't get it. The trees were $14.99 each. Also, I should be doing my sweet red pepper plant today! It's growing quite fast, any suggestions on how to keep it healthy for a lot longer?

Will finish the great mailbox project before lunch.
We dropped to 31 last night, but only for 30 minutes, so I think the pears in the orchard are ok.
Frost cloths are hanging on the fence drying from the hoophouse.
The greenhouse is open an I installed a shade cloth on the top row. If it's in the seed shed and has true leaves, it's graduating today to the green house.
For some reason, things seem stunted in the seed shed this year, although it has been cooler. I have kept things on warmer mats to help with that, but stopped as it wasn't helping (wasn't hurting either).
I'd like to hang the new coop door today, but if it's not a single person project, I'll push it to the weekend along with the chicken run Spring cleanout.

I was saving seeds & starting them for a while, but I had some red hot cherries (which are not hot, despite the name) going last year & figured they could have cross pollinated (I know they self pollinate mostly, but they could have) so I didn't bother saving any seeds. Now I just make my friend do it.

you are lucky you know how to preserve food. I tried to air dry carrots and after a few days they got mold. maybe I should sun dry them?

I've been wanting to learn this essential skill, as well. I bought a book on curing meat but I've been too nervous to actually try it.

Yes mam.. freeze drying is best for tubers/root veggies.. they are tricky to say the least, if you dehydrated raw taters they would reconstitute as raw and still need to cook, but most raw/wet type vegetables and fruits do much better (tomatoes/squash/fruits) dehydrated then reconstituted they would be edible and almost fresh again with heating to almost boiling slowly in water, and ready to be cooked with.. and most even can be eatin in the dehydrated state.. some vegetables do best (peppers come to mind) when dried just store and later grind. into powder or flakes and used in cooking as spices.. peppers don’t reconstitute back to original state very well.. it’s all in the preparation prior to dehydration as to what you get after dehydrated. I hope that helps.. I tend to get my responses twisted.. and can be confusing.. lol

If you want to keep a strain pure from season to season, you must isolate flowers and save seed from that particular pod.. cross pollination doesn’t effect same season peppers only the next seasons fruit.. contrary to popular belief.. and there is no heat “in the seeds” like many people think.. there is a hot Cherry type pepper out there also..

I'm a bit worried about my tomato plants. They all looked like the leaves were turning dark. I tried to Google it to see what might be happening. About the closest I can find is that they are turning dark because they are chilled. I hope this is the case because they should recover when things warm up. Except for last night (high 40s), I haven't had them outside in temps below 55 degrees but they were in my garage which is a few degrees warmer. Anyway, I'm worried about them. I'll try to get pictures today and post them. Maybe some of you can give me a 2nd opinion.
