What did you do in the garden today?

Off topic - anyone had a blood draw from the top of a hand? They took mine 12 days ago from my bad hand. I told her it was my bad hand and she used it anyway. No bruise. But dang it STILL hurts, like she hit a nerve in there, but more sharp like a bee sting or a bit of metal splinter.
Anyone?

I go for monthly blood work due to my autoimmune & the chemo drugs I'm on. They have to take it from my hand, it's the only vein they can find sometimes but I've never had them hit a nerve. My sister has & her pain lasted for a few months. I hope yours goes quickly.

I have decided to grow my indeterminate tomatoes up to 7 feet and I will cut the tops off.

I do that too, they get too out of hand if they get taller than that. One they outgrow the support I cut them.

Onions were decimated by the tree rats. Most still have green leaves but are bent/broken at the neck so the leaves are laying down. Will they continue to grow like that?

Mine look just like that for the same reason. They should be fine. I was going to look up cutting the tops, I do it when they're little, but I know there is a debate on wether it gives you bigger bulbs if you do it when they're older. Maybe I'll experiment.

I harvested a small bowl of strawberries yesterday that we munched on - delish! I'm thinking I will pull the bed at the end of the year, it's VERY hard on my back harvesting them.

Nothing happening in the garden, we're putting in the kitchen cabinets today! We have 2 broken ones so I won't have counters for weeks, but DH is hoping to be able to use the old counter to at least get me a sink again. It's killing me doing dishes in the bathroom. LOL

Good news you’re making progress on the kitchen!
I’ve had to do dishes in the bathroom before, it sucks. We were moving into a rental and after dinner on the first day I went to wash some things and heard this noise under the sink… apparently the seal around the drain was bad and there was water everywhere. That was a fun call to a brand new landlord.

Good morning all. Blood draw from the hand, not a problem. My veins are old and worn out and depending on the circumstances it’s really difficult finding a vein that’s willing. When I was in the hospital nearly 2 years ago I was on an IV for 3 1/2 days. They changed the IV every 12 hours so they used my hand once or twice. In addition to that they were drawing blood every 4 hours. So, needless to say, I’ve become totally numb to blood draws and IV’s. As for lingering pain, I’ve used ice packs for the pain and to minimize bruising. Yesterday I drove to Boston for my mamogram then mowed the front yard and the chicken yard after a late lunch. Need to mow the backyard and do the weed whacking in the garden paths today. I have some flowers I picked up that need to be potted up. I got a small tray of Dahlias. I thought I would give them another try. Tomorrow I’m cooking a whole 16 pound turkey on my charcoal smoker grill. I don’t want to be distracted while I’m supervising the smoking. Lol! Knock on wood, but the garden is doing very well. The peach tree is loaded with baby peaches so I will be taking advantage of the break in the rain showers and spray it with neem oil. Good morning gardeners, it’s great outside right now! Temps are cool, there’s a gentle breeze moving air and the water hose is workin already. I need to go spray a few things with neem oil before we take the dogs to the park. Once we get the shades up for the fruit trees later we’re going to measure for the new chicken run and talk about design I keep telling hubs I want to use the lattice that’s still out behind the shed for the sides but he’s being less than cooperative. I’ll work on that.

Hi everyone! Will be moving my cucumbers, zucchini & squash out today, topped with either netting or row cover (whichever I can uncover in thr shed first) to keep the cucumber beetles and SVB off until flowers emerge.

Also received a bunch of lily bulbs I ordered yesterday, so hopefully I can get them in the front mulch next to the daffodils to replace them as flowers in the summer once they start dying back. I like the front yard with bulbs so I don’t have to do much, and I can expend my energy in the back garden!

We are also harvesting the first strawberries! Yum!

If you want strawberries, I’ve seen where they can be grown in gutters or other relatively small/narrow spaces. I put a bunch into long plastic planters from Walmart. They produce berries pretty well. So these smaller spaces can be elevated. Biggest problem could be winter. We put the long Walmart planters in a cold corner of the garage bc it stays at a higher temp than outdoors.

They weren't interested in it but the body was gone the next morning so either a turkey buzzard got it or a coyote

Too bad you don’t live near me - you could have free Lily plants . It is clear the previous owners loved them as they are present on 3 sides of the house, including quite a bit of the back. They are also planted in an area where we put our garbage bins, so we have been trying to dig and give those ones away!

I am the same - nice minimal work landscaping in the front, but garden and work zone in the back.
