What did you do in the garden today?

Took a jaunt around the garden with DH. It's looking pretty good, except for the onions. I shake my head every time I look at them. So disappointing....

On a positive note, I think I might actually get corn this year! Provided the critters don't tear through the hoop house netting again. So far the liquid fence is keeping them at bay. :fl

I ended up double layering the netting on the hoop house since I didn't trust that cheap netting from Amazon. It's a good thing I did! It seems to have foiled the squash bugs who weaseled their way into one layer and get stuck. I spot-spray them with Sevin when I see them in the netting. They have also showed up enmasse in the mulch I put around the peppers just outside the hoop house. I easily plopped 8 or 9 from the netting (including 2 mating pairs!) into a cup of soapy water. So far all my defenses to keep them OUT of the hoop house are working!

I'm jealous of you all who have tomatoes already! I have lots of flowers but no fruit yet.

Moved the last of the chicks I had indoors into a brooder in the main coop. So nice to get that corner of my dining room back! 😊 In all seriousness though, I am going to have to do a major cull later this summer. Waaaaaay too many chickens! Heck, I have over 20 chicks alone from the spring hatch! I'm going to cull all the game hens and game hen mixes. They are a PITA and like to have 2 to 3 clutches per year. I need LESS broodies! Also culling most of the roosters, any hen that's a jerk, and would like to get rid of all the Silkies (6 roosters and 5 unsexed chicks left). All-in-all, I have to cull 20-30 birds.

My garden is almost 500 ft away from my house. It's a healthy walk down there several times a day. I used to carry a cloth bag with all my tools, spray, gloves, etc. Today I stopped by Harbor Freight to pick up some new 2" tie downs and decided to buy a weather-resistant toolbox to keep in the hoop house. I put some small gardening tools, Sevin spray and dust, jute string, velcro cable straps (perfect for tying up indeterminate tomatoes!), twist ties, zip ties, a utility knife, spare gloves, and some other odds and ends in it. That ought to save me a few steps.... 😂

I would like to get ahold of come hog panels myself, but cant bring myself in spend the cast to rent a truck to haul them, nor have I been lucky enough to find a truck to rent.
Hog panels I found. But at $5 more and only 3' wide I will drive to the next TSC to get cattle panels. I drive a ford ranger and have come up with a few interesting ways of getting those panels home. Nobody tailgated me That day. 😁

I found a duck(?) egg in a pile of dirt today 🤷🏻‍♀️ It was a bit bigger than a chicken egg and had a greenish tint. Hubs did the float test and it stayed down. He didnt put it into the incubator but did put it into the compost pile at least. Weird thing is, I've never seen any ducks around the house. There are a couple wild ones that live in the creek across a ways though. There were tons of ants and a weird spider in the pile too but nothing seemed to be bothering the egg.

Hmmm.. will that stay on permanently? Bc duct tape was suggested, but I don’t want a permanent block -just this season.
@Acre4Me why don't you try a pool noodle. Cut it to the size you need, slip it over the soaker hose and then duct tape. At the end of the season you can cut the noodle off.
