What did you do in the garden today?

We've been running temps around 109 for a week here...forecast says three more days and then possibly rain with temps in the high 90's. :wee

I want rain so bad...lol.

Today I made sauerkraut...that's as close to gardening as I got today!

Good morning gardeners, Everyone’s gardens look so amazing. I can relate to storms going around your area, that has been typical for us the last couple years. I was surprised yesterday morning, we got a bit of a sprinkle so hoping that bodes well for next week and we get some rain!

I have been using the condensate from our HVAC to water the xeriscape garden. I’m getting five gallons a day usually and haven’t used the hose in that area at all.

My hubby's like that...a complete lizard. I can handle the heat...but I like a little ac here and there!

My sweet potatoes did that when I first planted them. I didn't yank them and the following spring they regrew...when I dug around a little I found huge fat tubers. Now I just leave them be and dig around the edges for tubers when I want to eat them. They regrow every spring on their own and I can dig sweet potatoes all year round. They handle low water conditions that way too. My permanent patch doesn't need as much water as plants started from slips.
Which zone are you in, and what are your winters like? My understanding was that you need to be in at least zone 9 to grow sweet potato as a perennial.

Morning all. Rain missed me last night too so I need to water but my hose exploded. :he

I put up my first batch of green beans for the winter. :yesss: It was a small batch, but it will get out of hand as soon as the green lakes start producing.

Pulled a bunch more onions, still have maybe 15 or so left in ground. Probably almost time to pull the shallots. Got the stakes in for the new squash. Tied up some dahlias. Brought in a ton of sage, should be enough to get me thru winter, same with the parsley. Unfortunately I missed the boat on the dill. & I borrowed a hose so the garden is getting watered.

So I have a giant spaghetti squash that's completely yellow. Is there any way it could be ready to pick this soon? I think with ss they will ripen even after being picked, correct?

Any idea whats up with this tomato?
Also, this prayer plant has a line of holes in a couple if leaves. Any idea on that?
Im pretty confused on both. The plant though looks almost like bite marks?

I had some paste tomatoes do that one year, not all of them, but a few. I think it was internal blossom end rot. Check out this vid - about 1:13 in addresses internal BER.

What kind of tomato is that? San Marz are very susceptible to BER.

I'll just say, I sleep with the bedroom window wide open in the winter. My ac does not go low enough for me at 60 to sleep. :gig On the other end, we sure save in heat! In the summer the ac is on at 73. In the winter the heat is on at 62 (but completely off in the bedroom).
Same for me.

BTW, a pox on the creator of this virus. DS is back to normal, so 7 days in all (he still has a tickle cough, but he's been off all his allergy meds for a week, so now he's playing catch up)
DS is about back to normal but kept me up all night coughing.
I'm about there, still occasionally sneezing/coughing. I ache today and was awake most of the night SO itchy. Foreign protein reaction to either the virus or a bitey bug got me while I was napping on the deck.
This won't last forever.

Storms and their precious rain missed us last night. So I'll head out to water before it gets too steamy out.
DH has been enjoying the fresh slicers from the garden on sandwiches.
I brought in somewhere between a quart and a wazoo of arapahoe blackberries last night.
Have a good one all.

Odd, My SanMarzano have never had BER, but the hybrid varieties drive me nuts with it.

Zone 9b. Winters are mild...days in the 80s for most of it and nights just cool enough to get some frost here and there. We only get a handful of nights cool enough to freeze.

Cowpeas started flowering today. Spaghetti squash is taking off! Almost don't want to say it out loud but.. I think it's too humid for a certain fungus right now. This morning I rearranged the patio to make room for seedlings - I will be starting seeds for fall this weekend. Thunder today but 6 of 7 days I hear thunder and get no rain. I do have a rain gauge now - last Sunday we got just over an inch, and nothing since.

Well, that explains it. I'm in N. TX (zone 8a). Summers are the inner circle of Hell, and winters can give us multiple days of lows in the mid-teens. I suspect that if I don't get anything by the end of Fall I'm just going to be out of luck.
