What did you do in the garden today?

Did you make the press or buy?
We have a local historic park that does late fall shows. They have a mule press we can use, and a large simmering flat. We use that for free in exchange for dressing up in period costume and doing it as a show for visitors for the day.
Been several years since we've been.
Now you can get a press for $250 on amazon.
Honestly, that sounds better and using propane instead of standing over a woodfire simmering pan all day. Phew. It always seems to be a million degrees on show days.

I have not had rain in months, not even a drop. I'm sick of watering. & it's way too hot/humid out there to even go outside & we are in a severe drought now, everything is dying. & of course that means I have a broody. :smack That little witch has escaped 3 times now! :gigI have the crate upside down & then the tray on top - she figured out quick she could move it. So I put 4x4s on it. She still moved it! Now I have like 30 lbs of stuff piled on top. She'll prolly break her neck now. :he

Just picking & eating from the garden. Finally getting my BLTs with Mom on Sat.

For those making squash blossoms, you HAVE to stuff them with ricotta & mozz, then bread & fry!

Heading for feeling like 112+ tomorrow, a humid misery.
Not so horrible today, only feels about 98.

Fabric for the loom is in the wash and is headed for the line shortly.
Roast is marinating.

Garden is waiting for me to turn on the irrigation system.

Caught a hen acting as a roo today to the other hens, chase them til they squat, mounting and all. Weird thing. I'll be getting a new roo next week.

Well, it was raining pretty hard, but it just stopped. Not sure if I'm going to do anything in the garden today. Maybe I'll be able to harvest a bit, but I'm not sure.
Garden pics:

Tomato hornworms - not exactly hiding very well. Notice the one on the right has parasitic wasp eggs on it.

Nice plants... I'm jealous of the strawberries. The squirrels I have here keep eating them. :barnie

So…the rain was supposed to start at 7am…pushed to noon…pushed to 2…quickly picked up the garden supplies at 1:30 when wind & thunder started & I felt a couple of huge drops…still nothing…Forecast has rain for the next 6 days, waiting for that to change to zero days as seems par for the course. If we get nothing I will water in the morning.

another question…I found some purslane for the first time this year in random spots in my garden. Didn’t know what it was. Composted it (compost has not been used yet.) It is continually popping up everywhere, and I keep pulling it and am now putting it in the garbage. There was a large tilled spot on the other side of the patio and I pulled as much as I could there (flowers & bushes are going there eventually). What the heck? Why is it everywhere? I am trying to be vigilant about making sure I remove it when I see it. Filled a big garbage bag of it today and tried to make sure I had every leaf that may have fell off. Anyone have any tips to eradicate it from my yard?

Did get the potatoes harvested before the rain (since there isn’t any). 🙄

Good afternoon all. Hot one here today. Up to 95F now. I filled both chicken waterers with ice water. Changed the water in the bird bath and tossed in a big ice cube. Did some pruning on the tomato plants this morning and picked 2 more okra, some chard and kale. I checked the dirt in the garden and it wasn’t as dry as I thought it would be so I didn’t water. Rain is forecasted for tomorrow afternoon so I may or may not water tomorrow. I may try digging more potatoes tomorrow morning. I’ve been cooking in both crockpots today. In exchange for the trip to the Clam Box on Saturday, I promised DD a Mexican food fiesta for Sunday dinner. Today I put the pork in the crockpot to make carnitas. They’re almost done. I like to make a big batch and freeze it up in small portions so I can have tacos anytime. Sunday I’ll be using the carnitas to make nachos. Along with beans, rice, taquitos and churros for dessert. Yum. My small crockpot is cooking up a beef stew for my supper. The carrots, onions and potatoes in it are from my garden. Apparently there’s to be another 3 days of this heat, however today is the hottest. I’m really looking forward to some cooler temps and the grass greening up.
