What did you do in the garden today?

You just slice em and leave em in open to air dry in the slice?
Then what do you do with them?
I had read something bout them needing to ferment?

I just put tomato slices or seeds that dried up on a kitchen towel in an envelope or bag.

Sunny and beautiful today. I'm getting a couple of indoor chores done, then going out to dig some more dirt.

I haven't seen any sign of deer in the garden since I put up the last row of string/flags. :yesss:
digging dirt, sigh. one kind of cheat i found is, a fence post digger, I got an electric one from Home Depot, go ahead and laugh but this bugger is the bomb. anyways, dig 'small holes' a foot or so deep right next to each other. it is very good at breaking dirt up so you can get it into the shovel much easier than trying to chop at it with the shovel

I wish my body could keep up with everything I need to get done
AMEN. I am paying for 7 hours on the tractor and shoveling stone yesterday.

Walked the garden this morning. Found one of at least three hornworm I know are still out there. Trimmed off all the nibbled branches so I can better locate the other another day.

Making cookies atm for a road crew working outside.

Think I'll drain the irrigation lines next week to the garden and the orchard, probably the same day I cut the tomatoes at the ground.

Working smarter, not harder. Also, a quote from 7 of 9, if you are a Trekkie. She said, after using her Borg enhancements to solve a puzzle and accused of cheating, "It's not cheating. It's being more efficient." Great tools make gardening easier!

We are too. Just outside of Phoenix. Looks like they changed next weekend's forecast to around 100/101. (Before they were predicting 106.) So that'll be better. I haven't planted any seeds yet. I also have some seedlings (tomatoes & peppers) waiting to plant.

From what I'm reading, the cucumbers should be able to get planted soon-- based on soil temp anyway. I'm hoping to plant seeds for cucumber, bush beans, kale, lettuces, spinach, collards, parsley, carrots, and interplant marigolds and dill.

The heat is hanging on, it seems, longer than usual for Sept.. I hope it isn't going to be too late to start all those seeds. :fl

(I'm just starting my gardening here after years of not really growing anything.)
I'm just a little south of you... just outside of Tucson. Few degrees cooler normally.
Here I have my peppers, tree collards, mint and stuff I grow year round going. Then perilla and sweet potato that sprout in the spring and keep going til late fall. My early fall plants are green beans, melons, squash and cucs all just starting to bloom and fruit. I put my tomatoes out too early to fruit but just cool enough for some good growth before it cools enough...I struggle with that short short tomato season we get, so anything to give them more time. I've got cabbage just a couple inches high and I just planted some seeds...I know kale was one. It's driving me nuts that I can't remember what else I just planted! 🙄 But they're starting to sprout and I'll be able to id them after a bit 😂.

Ya...it's been hot just everywhere this year it seems. We get those big temp swings between day and night here so I tend to start planting when it's a little hotter then ideal...if I wait for the daytime to cool enough, the nights can be too cool for good growth. I'm traveling most of October too...so I decided to plant some things a little early so I can come home to them. I think early Octobers going to be perfect planting weather for a lot of things this year but I'll be gone! So spinach etcs going in the ground right before I leave regardless, and I'll have to cross my fingers they don't just bolt and seed. I think the temps will drop enough soon that they'll do ok. Most of the veggies will keep growing all winter here if you get em started soon enough to get established before the cold nights hit ❤️.

I'm glad your getting to garden again and hope everything grows well for you! I moved here from way up north years ago. Gardening here is nothing like what I knew there...lol. Have you gardened in our area before or are you a transplant to the desert too?

My hubby got me a little bitty jackhammer thing from harbor freight. I just love it for breaking up our rock hard dirt! My right foots the one that keeps breaking and tearing tendons etc and I think it's from years and years of driving a shovel, pitchforks etc with it. I'd love to know more about the electric pole digger. As much as I love my little jackhammer...it's a godsend but not perfect.

I will try to make a short video here in a day or so demonstrating how well it works.
