What did you do in the garden today?

Just finished tilling the garden again and am done for this season:

Good afternoon all. All I did was visit mama and the babies outside today
OMG THE PEEPING AND SWEET MAMA HEN CLUCKS!!!! :th:love

Not fair Mistress, not fair.

So I made a few jars of garlic, rosemary, pickled cherry tomatoes 3 weeks ago and I opened a jar today. They are soooo good! Any of you Bloody Mary or charcuterie peeps, these are the bomb! So I immediately went outside to glean the last of the usable cherry tomatoes to make some more (I wish I'd known how good they are before the bushes collapsed) and I found something...Last year I planted an Italian White cherry tomato and it never even bloomed at all (I thought) well it must have had at least one fruit because in climbing through the jungle of assorted vines I found these:

And they are delicious! I'll try to save some seeds and see if I can get them to grow again next year.

Here's our potato crop, not to bad for a single grow bag.

Now it's time to go see if I can catch a few perch.

Recipe?

I could watch mama hens and chicks all day long.... So dang cute!

I cleaned out the tomato jungle out of the hoop house today. Took me over 4 hours.... :th

Any suggestions on what to do with the gazillion tiny green tomatoes I collected in the process?

I also started collecting marigold seeds today.

Did NOT get around to actually processing any of the loofah yet.

Oh crap. I just realized I left the entire unopened bag (5 lbs) of fava beans down in the garden. Hope nothing destroys it. I'll try to get some planted tomorrow.

There's still a lot of stuff to clear out which was killed by the cold. My runner beans, butterfly pea, basil, and loofah all need cleaned up.

The Lufa's rotting. How cool is it in your basement, or more importantly, how humid?
Im thinking maybe keep them in the house, it's a bit warmer and maybe drier in the house so they'd be less prone to rotting?

The tiny maggots, fruit flies, yah in florida you get used to that unfortunately. it's kind of difficult to break their cycle too, and even when you do, So easy to get the little sob's back into the house again !

You have to be impeccably clean to be rid of them. NO I am NOT saying to be trailer trash dirt bag, but like literally, if you bring in fresh fruit, fruit from the farmers market, and one piece maybe NOT so fresh, you gottem. Or you leave them oranges on the counter overnight to ripen a bit...Bam, here's the sob's are. Now they head straight for your sink drains to breed and be a source of more to continually pester you until you gas them. No fruit, ok when you rinse with mouth wash and spit that sweet minty down the drain, oh they'll eat on that and breed too, until you bleach the pipes. YES they ARE that big of a pita to get rid of.

BTW, im not impeccably clean, so can tell you ALL about them and keeping them at bay :D Even if I wanted to be impeccably clean, having a cockatoo who purposely walks over and flaps his wings to 'fan' piles of dirt you swept up... good luck !!! and WITH a cockatoo, I am very reluctant to be spraying poisons all over the place too, lest he gets into something and gets sick.

But it's a small price to pay to eat absolutely fresh and HEALTHY food, not pumped full of chemicals and all the other crap in the stores.
