What did you do in the garden today?

Butterbur; Nettle; Marshmallow Root; Calendula flower; sow thistle; milk thistle; chickweed.
I've seen all of them except butterbur on my property in Michigan. Calendula (marigold) is sold as potted plants in the spring time, and seed packets are also available. The rest are just "common weeds" here.

Monitoring what you’ve got and predicting what you

My DHs birthday is also Thursday. Don’t you hate it when you might have enough of your own eggs, but can’t depend on it so you have to buy? At least there’s some to buy, our shelves were empty of eggs at our stores the last time I went.
So I paid attention at the market today.
6.48 for the cheap store brand xl or jumbo eggs, which is what shoots out the egg holes here

HOLY Crap. Saw my eldery across the street neighbor there and told her 'don't you DARE buy eggs, you just say the word....' That is ridiculous.

It's nuts. Apparently they're 4-5$ in our area per the dental hygienist.

If we don't get priced out of grain, son's egg business might do well.

It’s pretty crazy right now. I am so thankful for my chickens. I forgot to see if there were eggs and what the price is this afternoon.

right now mine are in winter break mode and im about to break some hens into a pot of hot oil if they don't get back with it soon.

I used to give my next door neighbor eggs often, but now really can't because I have not gotten any in the past 2 to 3 months !!

Right now, I shop at the Restaurant Depot for my bulk stuff. They had a stupid insane CRAZY sale on bacon. It's brand name is Swift but Ive had it before and it is really good bacon !! you just have to buy it in 15 lb slabs. No biggie, that's what they make zip lock baggies for. Anyways, I loaded up on about 200 lbs of bacon, it was selling for under 3 dollars a pound. When I can get 15 lbs of bacon for 43 dollars, it's time to load the truck up. Bag it and resell to the neighbors for a semi decent markup and it paid for the trip there. I let the guys at the shop know too and already got about 120 lbs of it sold to them, so it's moving fast ! I wish they'd have chicken on sale, it's been ages for that. Normally it runs about 49 cents a pound or so for leg quargers, but at times you can pick them up for like 26 cents / lb.

Butter is the next thing to watch. A few years ago I got 96 lbs of butter, that was 4 x 24 lb cases of it for 1.39 lb and threw it all in the freezer. Laughing WTF am I going to do with half a ton of bacon and butter. Fast forward 17 months and butter is almost 5 bucks a lb now.

With that being said, YES, I can see chickens starting to be stolen here TBH when I drive to the plant, there are some wild ones, you'll see a flock of about 20 of them on the side of the road picking thru the gravel. the closest house is probably half a block or so, so I kind of don't think they belong to anyone. Im half tempted to pull over one day with a bag of scratch treats and a net see if I can 'add to my flock' :D
