What did you do in the garden today?

Thank you for the very thoughtful post!

This is my integration coop. It really works well for what I use it for, except for post surgery I suppose! I’m not sure if raising it would be worth it or not but its worth mentioning to DH for sure. Being 4 feet deep I’m not sure there is any scenario where I wouldn’t have to bend though to change out puppy pads or grab a chick from the back wall.

I am off all pain meds, just taking muscle relaxers for the spasms I get. I am afraid I’ll be in pain when I start PT next week & the doc said he’d call in more meds if I need but would like me to try acetaminophen before I head out so that is my plan - just like you said! Here’s hoping!

You will be in pain during therapy, that's a GOOD thing, because that means the muscles and stuff are being stretched and working back to where they USED to be and are SUPPOSED to be. Take the asprin about half an hour or so before the therapy so it has time to kick in a little bit to get thru the therapy or you'll find yourself just in plain agony by the time the hour is up.

The first few weeks are going to be rough, you'll feel 'hopeless' you feel when you look at the simple things you can not do or at least can't do without pain like your life is just going to be a mess from now on.

DO NOT LET THIS DISCOURAGE YOU !!!
THIS IS WHY YOU ARE IN THERAPY ---- TO FIX THIS !!

It takes time but at the end you will actually, if not just as good as you were when you went in, you will end up so much BETTER, because you won't be in the horrible pain that sent you to start all of this to begin with !!

Were rootin for you, and so are the girls, but you can't hear them since you can't speak Chickeneese :)

also for the muscle relaxers.

They like to give Flereril. While it works, it can leave you a bit loopy or wibbly wobbly.

I use Baclofen myself. it gives a nice mild 'mid range' relax that helps ease you along but without the overkill some of the higher ones do and it's not a benzo either.
If you are having sleep problems, Ambien works short term or .. and you can NOT mix this with ambien, but, as a substitute that will also relax the muscles. Tizanidine .. I believe it's also called Xanaflex. IF you take that though, be prepared to goto BED. Don't be in a parking lot or at a restaurant or something or you'll end up sleeping there for the night ! :)

Take it and go niters for the day, wake up the next morning refreshed because you finally got a good nights sleep, and ready for your next day of chicken huggin and therapy.

ps, yes I know I need mental therapy too but that's a different topic : P

Flexeril doesn't really work for me. Tizanidine doesn't do much either UNLESS I combine it with some Naproxen (Aleve) and take them together. I rarely take medications but this is what I used whenever I was recovering from an injury during my close combat martial arts days.

Everyone who has been thru this kind of knows, what works for them, what don't, and all that. I don't want to tell people to turn their bodies into a Dow Chemistry Plant, like I did in my younger years during my 'oh and what's this do??? :( phase )

But the same time, try to tell them, YES there sometimes ARE things that can work that are NOT narcotics. You don't have to take the Opioids all the time, (but there ARE times they ARE needed, and playing tough guy and roughing it through without, can actually hinder your actual healing).

Don't mix the big boys, you know what they are, Benzo's, Oxy, Hydro, Alcohol, but on the other hand, if you find that, Ok I can take a Midrin, Flexoril, and a Motrin and get thru this next 12 hours WITHOUT having to drop 2 or 3 percocets, then by all means do it. (Edit: Ok, Butalbitol on the Barby side, if you aware of what this is you are aware enough NOT to be playing games and being a fool ! )

Also though, even though some of the stuff is OTC, it CAN tear up your liver and kidneys so always be aware of that too. Just because you can buy Tylenol by the 1000's does not necessarily make it safe for you to gobble them up, just because they are working somewhat.

Do the adulting thing here always when it comes to ANY medications so you don't find yourself at room temp.

I have been using Garden Soil from Lowes mixed 2 to 1 with peat moss for the first 3/4 of my 15 gallon fabric bag, mixed with 10-10-10 fertilizer and Super Sweet brand granular lime. For the top 1/4, I used 50/50 Garden Soil and peat moss mixed with a cup of pelleted chicken manure and a cup of Epoma's natural soil acidifier. This has been working for my tomato project.

I can only mix one bag a day. I don't want to stress my couch potato life style.:barnie

One of my coworkers was dealing with some stuff. They ruled out cancer, heart problems & lung problems. Turns out there’s a bunch of slipped disks. He says, he can deal with the pain for now, because it’s affirming he’s alive. Going to meet w a specialist to find out what comes next, but he is very happy his ailment turned out not to be life-threatening and he will get to meet his future grandchildren after all the fears he had.

It was cold today. Low 17, high not reaching 30, and snow flurries. Since the low was supposed to be close to zero, I will gladly take double digits. The girls were glad the ground was clear of heavy snow as they ventured out for a bit today to scratch. Pulled a few lacinato kale plants for them as it doesn’t keep as well as other kale in cold temps. They had fun munching it down.

Had a new light cream egg yesterday. Watched the coop on & off all day. Whoever it was has not laid another. I hope I get to see them tomorrow or Monday, since I have a 3 day weekend to be home. The run is out my sunroom window, so although it’s a bit chilly out there, I have a nice view of my girls and can see if their food/water needs topping off without leaving the house. So glad we put them close by!

Glad to hear so many of you are enjoying mild temps. Still only in dream stages here…will prob start first plantings indoors under lights either the end of Feb/beginning of Mar. need to do one more seed inventory check this weekend…hoping to justify one last seed order. 😂

does this mean you're buying it, or just picking out the good lumps to use or what? :D
I bought it, they sell it at Lowes. I use it to top dress my container plants, it makes them green and its easy to see when I need to add.

I spread the poop from my chicken coop around my fruit trees, I don't use it in my potting mix.

Its easier to fill a 5 gallon bucket of water and mix in Master Blend fertilizer than it is to mix and fill potting mix. I wonder which one will produce more fruit? If its close, I won't use potting mix anymore for tomatoes.:bow
