What did you do in the garden today?

We finally transplanted the blueberry bushes from the side of the house where they weren't getting optimal sun.

To a nice space on the side of our food forest.

But now I have this big blank slate here that gets plenty of afternoon shade. I haven't decided what I want to do with the space. There's bocking 14 comfrey, turmeric, shampoo ginger, and there should be some hostas if they come back from last year. But it looks so empty right now!

Good morning gardeners! Heavy rain here for the Nor'easter New England was expecting. Hope it stays that way instead of turning to sleet or wet snow. Might be lucky since I live in Southern New England. Forecast says low of 32F tonight, so perhaps a little bit of snow then, but I expect minimal sticking with all the rain.

Come on spring! No more snow. I'm so done with winter this year.

I got my peach from stark bros too. Very happy with it. I would like a pear & a plum (not sure if plum will grow here). But this peach is my first fruit tree so I’ll see how this goes first. I’m horrible at pruning my blueberry bushes so I’m guessing I’ll be just as horrible with the trees too. 🤣

Went outside & filled feed & water & noticed the snowbells are blooming. I adore the little snowbells. 💕
How long have you had the peach tree? A friend of mine told me they are very susceptible to pests and illness, though I've been really wanting a dwarf galaxy peach tree. If the maintenance isn't too bad, I think I might still spring for it. I've been wanting to add that tree and a few blueberry bushes.

I know for a fact that Italian Plum Trees are hardy up here. Pear trees are the hardiest fruit trees, so you can't go wrong with any pear tree here.

Good morning. I’ll try to get this in quick. Woke ip to 10 inches of snow. I shoveled to the chicken coop and we have well over a foot now. Our power keeps going off and on. Managed to get a small load of clothes washed, breakfast and cookies baked. We are likely to get 24 or more inches of snow before it’s over tomorrow. Be glad you are way south of me @Noralesong. The weather app kept telling me it was raining last night but it is snow. No rain at all. Just lots of snow. I’m so happy I had those big trees cut down. A lot of trees are bending over and have already broken. We’ll be fine. Maybe I’ll get some more seeds started today.

The peach tree is new last summer. @Wee Farmer Sarah has tremendous luck with hers & she is just north in MA - she says she treats twice a year with neem oil, only fertilizes with wood ash as needed with her soil & says peach trees arent too picky with pruning. I picked her brain before ordering mine, lol.

Speaking of, hang in there Sarah, I knew you were getting hammered! So far it’s only been rain for me, thank goodness. It should be turning to snow any time now, but I’m in a big lull so I’m still hopeful it won’t amount to much. I have an MRI tomorrow that I need to get to. 🤞

Finally got the internet back for now. You know the storm is bad when the birds are still going to the bird feeder. I already knocked the snow off it earlier but I need to put some more seed in there. And yes, my peach tree is doing very well. I really need to prune it a lot when this slop is over. It’s getting too tall. I picked up 5 concord grape plants yesterday. And I just checked the herb tray and I have tarragon and dill growing. Yay! The power is still intermittent which is a pita but I’ll be fine. My crazy neighbor just cleared his car off. It’s a van not an suv. Lol! There’s over a foot of wet snow in the street and no plows will be here until tomorrow likely. Good grief.

So far today, nothing. By this time of the year I'm getting stir crazy, but it's been so nice out this year that I've been doing a lot of prep work, readying the garden, trimming up perennial herbs, cleaning out the shed. 3 days ago I took a nap in 70° sunshine, rocking in a rocking chair with Numi the Guinea in my lap. Yesterday, it snowed.:he
