What did you do in the garden today?

We finally transplanted the blueberry bushes from the side of the house where they weren't getting optimal sun.

To a nice space on the side of our food forest.

But now I have this big blank slate here that gets plenty of afternoon shade. I haven't decided what I want to do with the space. There's bocking 14 comfrey, turmeric, shampoo ginger, and there should be some hostas if they come back from last year. But it looks so empty right now!

Some options:

Hellebore (aka Lenten Rose) is a shade lover - tolerates sun, but not all day sun.

Wintergreen is a good option too - mounding plants with shiny leaves, and red berries I think. needs some shade.

Hosta, of course, or ferns.

I have a sneaky hen that is sitting on eggs so I guess I'll have some chicks again soon too. Lol
I have one persistent broody who keeps TRYING to sit. She grumbles loudly when I take eggs from her every day and shrieks in protest when I remove her from the nesting box completely every night. 😂

Stark Brothers has $3.14 shipping today only, along with a lot of things on sale.

I ordered the 2 nectarine trees we discussed (a yellow and a white), and an additional Apricot tree. This should round out all available fruit tree space. This will give us 2 trees each of 4 fruit types (Asian Pear, plum, persimmon, nectarine), and 3 trees each of Apricot and Peach. We decided to just finish planting the fruit trees since it is around 5 years before getting fruit of any decent quantity.

Still thinking about grapes. still need to do research. Still plan to do some blueberries at some point in the future. Maybe we prep this year for planting in 1-2 years. we will see. We do know that the pH will need to be adjusted down for the blueberries and that will take 1-2 years to get it to an acceptable pH.

Good morning gardeners. Went out on my break to check on things and it looks good out there! The bigger Vitex has green atuff all over it, the vining things look fine and the night blooming jessamine is recovering quite well. I have a jasmine plant in the center of the shade garden and it’s got tiny buds on it too. The small Vitex I transplanted recently looks great too. I had some white sage sitting on the front porch but one looked really bad so I brought them in. I may leave a few in the shade garden to transplant in fall and try a couple in the yard, but will have to transplant those later in the week on a cooler day. Break is over, I’ll catch up later!
