I wait for the green part to get longer then I pinch it off. I think it may have something to do with how deep we plant them or how much moisture they get. Brad Gates from Wild Boar Farms put saliva on it and let it fall off naturally.Several of my tomato seedlings have an issue. I didn't get a picture, so I'll try to describe how they look.
They look like a tiny, seed-size lollypop on a stem. The seed leaves didn't break open the seed hull. I've seen it before, and have never seen one like this actually make it. Well, I counted about a dozen of those. I think I'm going to be replanting a bunch of seeds tomorrow.![]()
That's the problem. No green showing at all. No leaf, just the seed on top of the stem.I wait for the green part to get longer then I pinch it off. I had this happen, too. I got the seed hull wet, waited a minute or two, and gently squeezed it off (make sure you squeeze on the seams so it helps the hull to open). The ones that I didn't get wet tended to tear the leaves at least a little, but the wet ones mostly slipped right off.Several of my tomato seedlings have an issue. Good luck. You should try some of your grapes. Sometimes wild grapes are really good.My cherry trees are blooming. Wild grapes are budding out. Time to try my hand at grafting on them. If successful I should get a crop next year.
