What did you do in the garden today?

What did you do in your garden today?

I picked a bunch of Rattlesnake green beans and Cherokee wax beans, a few tomatoes, three eggplants, some broccoli shoots, and jalapenos. Pretty happy with today's harvest!

I successfully rediscovered my passionate hate of weeds. They were all left there by previous tenants who shall remain nameless (so I will just say sister and her best friend).

Down to 2 pints of canned pumpkin. The Dickinson pumpkin and Cushaw squash will be canned. Both make good pies. I sometimes mix them in the jars. I hope a banana squash plant survived as I want to try one. Not all of my squash plants survived the June drought while I was gone. I never label my squash and rely on looks of the squash. I do remember some of them.

July 24th 1936 people sleeping on the Statehouse lawn in Lincoln, pre AC ( although theaters had it) the LOW for the night was a HUMID 90', and the brick tower apartments held the heat downtown.
=========
We has AC on the house (new build) in the early 70s, but my mom rarely ran it. She thought it cost too much. My dad worked outside all day and one day DEMANDED it be turned on. It was only costing $5 a day. And OMG what a difference it made to be able to come home and breathe. Our schools didn't have AC, neither did our cars.
Back when AC in cars was an option, lol. I remember my parents' getting AC in the car, it was a big deal when I was a kid.
We used to take drives with the windows down at night to try to cool down after working all day before AC. We had a window AC unit but my parents never let us turn it on.

My parents didn’t get an ac cos they used a lot of energy, anyways, when I grew up in Canada, 22 C was hot ;) we had a black car for 2 years, it really heated up in the summer, but no ac in that either. I‘ve had an ac in my cars since I moved near Berlin, it gets really hot ( I think) here, we’ve had temperatures around 30-38 C really scared when it will go up to 40 C 😓 I need a cool place to sleep, when the house starts to warm up to 22C I have trouble sleeping, I usually start sleeping in the basement, but after a while that starts to get too warm too, hubby belongs to the tribe AC is harmful to the environment, so no AC for me… a few years ago I was thinking about sleeping in the car with the ac on, but it isn’t really an option, gas being expensive too and the neighbor would really get pi..ed off at me for letting the car run longer than 1 minute 😳😳

Just had my first experience with stinging nettles 😬
Fun, isn't it! I read the stings were good at relieving arthritis pain, so one time I slapped a nettle plant across my knee several times to see if it helped. I think it did, but in the same way hitting your thumb with a hammer relieves tooth ache pain.
